I started using a waterproof bag-in-bag.
I've been using a mesh bag a lot lately.
It's the one in the photo.

A slightly large, black mesh bag.
It's because it's trendy.
I'd like to say that, but it's probably not such a stylish reason.
It's to avoid forgetting things.
I forget things quite often.
I said 'quite often' to put it mildly, but I do it fairly regularly.
My wallet.
Earphones.
Mobile battery.
Cables.
A small pouch.
I'm sure I checked before leaving, but for some reason, they're left at home.
What is that all about, I wonder.
I had the intention of bringing them.
The intention, at least.
But intention alone doesn't get things into the bag.
In that regard, a mesh bag is quite convenient.
You can see inside.
This is a strong point.
When I peek into the bag,
'Oh, the mobile battery is in there,'
'The cable is there too,'
'The pouch is there too,'
I can confirm it with my eyes.
It's subtle, but it helps a lot.
I basically spend a lot of time cycling around Osaka city.
From Abeno to around Tennoji.
If I have a small errand, a little further.
There are quite a few places in Osaka that are at just the right distance to travel by bicycle.
Not far enough to need a train.
But a bit too far to walk.
In those times, a bicycle is quite easy.
And the mesh bag fits the lightness of that bicycle travel.
I also like proper leather bags and heavier shoulder bags.
But on hot days, or days when I'm just going out for a bit, or days when I want to keep my luggage light, the airy feel of mesh is just right.
It looks light, too.
It doesn't look heavy even when I'm carrying it.
I also somehow like the feeling of being able to see the contents a little.
Of course, there is the question of whether it's okay for the contents to be too visible.
So, I make the pouches inside mesh or transparent ones too.
A visible pouch inside a visible bag.
At this point, I'm not even trying to hide anything.
But that way, it's harder to forget things.
It's the transparency I need.
However, this mesh bag has a natural enemy.
Rain.
It's quite a natural enemy.
Since it's mesh, it's obviously vulnerable to rain.
It doesn't really have any intention of protecting anything.
No, it's not the bag's fault.
It's a mistake to expect defensive capabilities from a mesh bag.
But lately, aren't there a lot of sudden rains?
It was sunny in the morning, but it suddenly rains in the evening.
It seemed fine when I left, but the sky looks suspicious on the way home.
I finished my errand around Tennoji and went outside, and it was already raining.
There are days like that.
On days when I know it will rain from the start, I go out with a rain bag.
That's fine.
The problem is the sudden rain.
That's a nuisance.
If it suddenly rains while I'm out with my mesh bag, I start to worry about the contents.
The pouch is visible.
The cable is visible.
The mobile battery is visible.
They are visible.
And they look like they're going to get wet.
It's over.
That's when I found the KiU waterproof bag cover.

A foldable, waterproof bag cover.
In short, it's something you can put your whole bag into during sudden rain.
This was quite good.
First of all, it's small.
It becomes really small when folded.
In the photo, I placed it next to the Anker mobile battery I always use.

You can tell when you line them up, but it's a size that's very easy to carry around.
Even if I keep it in my bag, it hardly gets in the way.
This 'not getting in the way' is important.
Rain protection gear is reassuring if you have it.
But if it's a nuisance to carry around every day, you'll gradually stop carrying it.
And it only rains on the days you don't have it.
Life has a way of being like that.
In that regard, this bag cover folds up small, so it's easy to keep inside the mesh bag.
I feel like I can keep it in there all the time.
Also, it's nice that there are various colors and patterns.
The one I use is a slightly fun color with red and blue.
It has red and blue patterns on a whitish fabric.
When I first saw it, I thought I liked it a bit.
Things like this can just be for rain protection, but if you're going to carry it anyway, it's better if it lifts your mood a little.
Sudden rain already brings your mood down a bit.
If I can take out a bag cover with a pattern I like, well, I can forgive it a little.
The rain won't stop, but my mood gets a little better.
Speaking of KiU, I have an impression of rain ponchos and rainy day items.
So, it was easy to pick up as rain protection.
'Well, if it's KiU, it feels reliable as a rain-related item.'
That kind of feeling.
Of course, I won't say it's absolutely safe no matter what kind of rain or what you put in it.
I can't say anything that strong.
But just having something to quickly put your bag into during sudden rain makes me feel much more at ease.
That alone is helpful enough.
It can also be used as an eco-bag in daily life.
When you buy a little something at a convenience store.
When you have more luggage while you're out.
When you want a bag while cycling.
It can be used in those times too.
It's convenient to have it not just as a waterproof bag cover, but as a regular sub-bag.
However, there are also drawbacks.
When it rains, I put everything from the mesh bag into this bag cover.
Then, the good points of the mesh bag disappear for a moment.
The contents are not visible.
The light, airy mesh feel also disappears.
It just becomes a regular bag.
I also have a bit of a feeling of, 'What was the point of the mesh bag?'
But it's raining, so it can't be helped.
Safety of the contents over the aesthetics of mesh.
Probably.
Including that, I kind of like it.
Usually light with mesh.
If it rains, a bag-in waterproof bag.
There's a bit of a contradictory feeling.
But life is mostly like that.
I want to use the bag I like.
But I don't want my luggage to get wet.
I don't want to forget things either.
If possible, I want to go out lightly.
It's difficult to make everything perfect.
So, I supplement it little by little with tools.
In my case, I decided to keep one small waterproof bag inside the mesh bag.
Just that reduces the anxiety about sudden rain a little.
When cycling around Osaka city, there are days when I'm at the mercy of the weather.
But thinking that this is inside my bag makes me feel a little more at ease.
If it rains suddenly, well, I can manage.
Just being able to think that changes my mood when going out.
Of course, it's better if it doesn't rain.
That is truly the case.
But if it does rain, I can just use it.
If I don't use it, that's fine too.
I kind of like the feeling of it waiting small inside the bag.
I want to use a mesh bag, but sudden rain is a bit scary.
For someone like me, it was just the right tool.
I have it in my bag today too.
If it doesn't get a turn, that's the best.
But just having it there is a little reassuring.
These kinds of small preparations are actually quite important.
