Cityscapes Where Past and Present Intersect: Nagoya Snapshots ⑥ Joshin
This time, I'm heading to Joshin Station.
My goal is to take snapshots around every station in Nagoya. This time, I visited Joshin Station. Photographed in October 2025.

What kind of place is it?
Joshin Station is a station on the Nagoya Municipal Subway Tsurumai Line located in Nishi Ward.
It is relatively close to Nagoya Castle. Because it is near the city center, it has a long-standing shopping street and is a bustling area.
Snapshots
There are three characteristic things that catch your eye when looking around the station area.
First are the many bronze statues, and then the huge orange building (Joshin Station Building).

The next thing that catches your eye is the temple (Joshin-ji). It is rare to find a temple on the corner of an intersection.

Nearby, there is a shopping street that feels historic.

I tried walking north under the expressway.

Summary
While the previous location, Higashi Nagoya Port Station, was a place that felt extraordinary, this time, Joshin Station was a contrasting location where one could feel the very essence of daily life in Nagoya.
While feeling a sense of sadness at the closing of some shops, I also saw new ones opening, making this a photo shoot where I was able to document a townscape that is currently in the process of changing.
Next time, I will post the location in the photo below.
Do you know where it is?
