[Happy Food] #21 Eating My Fill of South Indian Cuisine in Shibuya!
Went to my first food gathering of the year with a close friend from work.
Last year, she and I were fellow foodies who went to an all-you-can-eat bread place♡
This time, at her recommendation, we booked this
Late Winter Modern Indian Course!
It's at a South Indian restaurant
selected as one of the Tabelog 100 Famous Stores, Eric South Masala Diner in Shibuya.
I'm already asking for seconds of roti from the start♡

When you bite into the bite-sized croquette, the mashed taro and cheese melt in your mouth♡

apple butter

Tender mutton served refreshingly with raw cauliflower & yogurt sauce

Spanish mackerel and tomatoes are added to a sour and spicy soup based on salt, spices, and tamarind. It warms you from the core.
There is a course meal instruction sheet on the table, which carefully details how it's made and recommended ways to eat it.
For menu names that sound like incantations that I don't quite understand, I check the instruction sheet. Between the
art-like visuals
and the
magical flavors finished with a variety of spices, I'm so busy being surprised and cheering!
The all-you-can-eat roti goes down smoothly, and I
ask for seconds early♡
My heart is moved by the fantastic main course

The bean-filled risotto and the oysters breaded in coarse semolina flour both have gentle flavors and are my absolute favorite♡

The mellow coconut-based curry, chicken, potatoes, and the deep richness of the croissant are a brilliant harmony!
Now that the rasam has warmed my body,
the main dishes are finally arriving.
Khichdi (risotto) and crispy fried oysters. The thick
rich curry with bone-in meat is served with
a crispy, flat croissant!
The novel combination and the deliciousness that soaks into your body is a storm of emotion...
The finishing touch: the all-you-can-eat 'Wanko' curry platter!

Just as we finished the curry, the server casually brought us an order sheet for
'Wanko Curry'.
Huh?? Wanko curry?
There are 5 types of small-sized curries, and you can order from just one. It seems you can also order the full platter or ask for seconds.
As a foodie, I didn't hesitate to order the full serving.
Although there was more than I expected, each dish was unique, and before I knew it, I had finished everything while comparing the flavors!
A gourmand girl who ate with all her might

Pani puri is a classic Indian snack where you pour a soup (pani) made with spices and other ingredients into a round, crispy wheat puri. Pouring in kiwi yogurt made for a super mysterious, crispy, and fizzy experience!

After enjoying the unique dessert and chai to finish,
I left the restaurant feeling 1000% satisfied.
…And the moment we stood up, we both realized,
“Oh! We’re so full!!” (Too late! Way too late!! lol)
Man, my stomach really feels like it’s going to burst!
Maybe I ate a little too much. (Not just a little)
With that, we headed home holding our stuffed stomachs.
When I opened the menu description I had brought home,
I found this warning at the beginning…
[For those who want a light meal and those who want to eat with all their might]
The roti we serve instead of bread (though refills are free) will fill you up in no time. If you want a light meal,
we recommend taking it home as is. Please don't push yourself with the 'wanko' curry before dessert. Conversely,
if you are a gourmand, please say 'full serving' with confidence. *Gourmand is a French word meaning a foodie or a gourmet
.
We didn't read this kind warning at all, and followed our desires to
get a roti refill and
get the full serving of wanko curry. …So that’s why the staff member asked us so probing-ly at checkout, “Was the volume okay??”… We must have been completely
certified as full-force gourmands
. lol
But I was able to enjoy the magical South Indian cuisine,
so it was a truly happy night, and I have no regrets♡
I’ll exercise a lot tomorrow! lol
Thank you for reading this far.
