Creating a new school, starting from a closed school

Today, I went to a closed school in Inabe City.
I had a conversation there with the neighborhood association president.

The reason is—

I am currently
trying to create a new school that fosters non-cognitive skills.

Have you ever heard of "non-cognitive skills"?

Like test scores or IQ,
they are abilities that cannot be measured by numbers.

However, for living in the coming era,
I believe these are the kinds of skills that are truly important.


In the first place, are children's talents and strengths
something that can be measured only by test scores?

The concept for this school began with that question.

And actually, I am already
moving forward with the launch of a free school as well.

A free school is
a place for children who are carrying worries or anxieties
to return to a place where they can feel safe.

In other words, a place to settle their hearts.

On the other hand, this school I am trying to create this time is
from zero to plus.

"I want to try this"
"I want to take on a challenge"
A place to nurture those kinds of feelings.

Not just finding a dream,
but a place to foster the ability to start moving toward that dream🌟


A place like a closed school
is packed with the time and thoughts of many children from the past.

I want to make that place once again
a place where children can gather and take on challenges.


Flying drones,
thinking through board games,
and interacting with the local community.

Not "being made to do it," but
learning that starts from "I want to try it."

Within that, non-cognitive skills will naturally grow.

There is still a long way to go.
But little by little, it is taking shape.

From this place,
what kind of challenges and stories will be born?
