Parting with a Long-Time Partner: An Aftermath
Good evening.
Thank you for watching again today.
I have parted ways with the car I have been with for many years.
I think 15 years is a reasonably long time. After all, I drove it from the time my son was in kindergarten until the year he reached his coming-of-age ceremony.
However, the car I drove was a model known for its safety and durability, so there are quite a few owners who have been driving theirs for over 20 years.
Even now, my heart stings a little when I see blog posts from owners saying, "My mileage has exceeded 200,000 km, but it's still running perfectly."
When I bought this car, I was also inspired by such articles, and I decided to purchase it because I longed to become that kind of owner myself.
But in the end, I let go of my precious partner, which had less than 50,000 km on the odometer and could still run perfectly well if I had just properly repaired the necessary parts.
Acquire good things and use them with care for a long time.
In this day and age, where stylish designs and convenient new products are born one after another and the lifespan of product value is getting shorter and shorter, I think a lifestyle of carefully maintaining and using things with affection even as they get old is a wonderful choice.
For someone like me who is lazy, hates hassle, and is a slacker to boot, it is a way of life I admire all the more.
As a car owner, I could not fulfill that way of life. I was an absolute underachiever.
I plan to refrain from buying a car for a while and try car sharing. Actually, I have already tried it.
Surprisingly, it is quite convenient, and I have even thought that maybe this would be fine for me from now on, but I will write about that on another occasion.
Now, there is one more thing I must continue to use with care.
This is something I cannot let go of, no matter how lazy I am. I cannot easily replace it, and certainly, sharing is absolutely out of the question.
What could it be?
I am so sorry.
Sorry for keeping you waiting.
It is,
my house.
My home, my house, my place.
I bought this place 10 years ago.
It's a 35-year mortgage (lol).
You might have already noticed from the first photo, but lately, I haven't been able to take care of the house or the garden at all.
The lawn in the garden, which had been hidden behind the car and didn't bother me much, has been overgrown for quite a while.
Now that I've let go of the car, it's been exposed to the neighbors' eyes 24 hours a day, all the time (embarrassing).
But no matter how shabby it gets, I can't just abandon my home.
So, starting tomorrow, the home maintenance series begins.
Stay tuned!
