Is Commercial Use of Suno Songs Allowed? A Summary of Rules and Precautions by Subscription Plan
Can I use songs created with Suno however I want?
I want to upload them to YouTube. I want to release them on streaming services. I want to add them to karaoke. If you have ever created a song with Suno, you have probably thought about this at least once. How freely can I use this song?
Many people might not worry about it if they are just uploading to social media. However, in situations where money is involved—for example, using it in monetized videos, distributing music, or adding it to karaoke—it becomes a matter of commercial use. If you proceed without clarifying this, it could lead to trouble later on.
In this article, I have summarized the commercial use rules for songs created with Suno as clearly as possible. Which plan allows it? What should I be careful about? Reading this article should clear everything up for you.
※ This article is based on information as of March 10, 2026. Since Suno's terms and plan details are updated frequently, please be sure to check the official website for the latest information.
What exactly is commercial use?
Commercial use might sound difficult, but roughly speaking, it means earning money using that song. For example, the following uses count as commercial use.
Using it as BGM for monetized videos on YouTube or TikTok
Releasing it on music streaming services like Spotify or Apple Music
Selling it as a CD or merchandise
Distributing it to karaoke (such as JOYSOUND)
Providing it for a fee as BGM for events or shops
Conversely, sending it to friends via LINE or posting it on your own social media without monetization generally does not count as commercial use. The point is whether money is involved directly or indirectly.
Suno by Plan: Can you use it commercially or not?

Let's take a closer look.

The Suno Terms of Service (revised November 2025) state the following.
Users subscribed to the Pro or Premier plan have the rights to the output generated during their subscription period assigned to them by Suno.
Free plan users may only use generated songs for personal, non-commercial purposes. Furthermore, attribution to Suno (credit) is required.
In other words, if you want to use it commercially, subscribing to at least the Pro plan (from $10/month) is mandatory.
3 points often overlooked
Don't feel secure just by looking at the plans. There are several pitfalls to the commercial use of Suno that are surprisingly little known.
Point 1: Songs created during the Free plan period cannot be used commercially even if you upgrade to the Pro plan later.
According to Suno's terms, the right to commercial use is limited to songs created during a paid subscription period.
In other words, even if you create 100 songs on the Free plan and then switch to the Pro plan, those 100 songs cannot be used commercially. You must recreate any songs you wish to use commercially after subscribing to the Pro or Premier plan.
Point 2: The establishment of copyright itself is not guaranteed.
Suno's terms include the following sentence:
Suno does not guarantee that copyright will be established in the output.
This is not limited to Suno; the copyright of AI-generated content is an area where legal frameworks are still catching up globally. At present, it is considered a gray area in many countries whether copyright can be granted to things generated autonomously by AI.
However, this does not mean you cannot use it. Suno's paid plans permit commercial use by assigning the rights Suno holds to the user. In practice, using songs created on a paid plan for commercial purposes is permitted under Suno's terms.
Point 3: Lawsuits with major record labels are ongoing.
As a fact you should be aware of, Suno is being sued by major record labels for copyright infringement regarding the training data for its AI models (since 2024).
This lawsuit is not targeting users who used songs created with Suno directly, but is a lawsuit against the Suno service itself. However, there is a non-zero possibility that the terms of service could change depending on future rulings.
You don't need to worry excessively, but it is good to keep in mind that this situation exists.
So, what can you actually do with Suno songs?
If you are subscribed to the Pro plan or higher, you can release the songs you create in various ways.
Video BGM for YouTube, TikTok, etc.
You can use your own background music or insert songs in your videos. Monetization is also allowed.
Music distribution (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.)
You can distribute your songs to streaming services using distributors like DistroKid or TuneCore.
Karaoke distribution
This is where we at 'KaraGo' come in. You can take the songs you created with Suno and add them to JOYSOUND nationwide so they can be sung at karaoke.
Create a song with Suno (must be a song created with a Pro plan or higher)
Prepare the song file and lyrics
Register via the KaraGo website
About 3 weeks later, distribution begins at JOYSOUND-equipped locations nationwide!
The cost is a one-time payment of 16,000 yen (tax included) per song. There are no monthly fees or renewal charges. Once added, it will remain available for distribution indefinitely. Being able to search for a song you created with AI on a karaoke remote and sing it with a microphone in hand—this is more moving than you can imagine when you actually try it.
Other uses
Podcast jingles
Soundtracks for independent films and games
Original songs for weddings and events
If you are on a plan that allows commercial use, it is basically up to you.
Summary
1. To use songs created with Suno for commercial purposes, a Pro plan (from $10/month) or Premier plan is required. Songs created with the free plan cannot be used commercially.
(2) Only songs created during a paid plan period have commercial usage rights. Upgrading your plan later does not apply retroactively to past songs.
(3) While there are some unclear aspects regarding the copyright of AI-generated music, commercial use under a paid plan is permitted under Suno's terms of service. Be sure to check the latest terms regularly.
