Exploring Human Potential While Participating in the Future

A month has passed since I moved to Marina del Rey. Before the move, I wrote, “I will fully enjoy quiet time in my new home.” I am enjoying that quiet time just as I planned. However, in that stillness, I have noticed another version of myself beginning to stir.

I am gradually getting used to life in my new apartment, but in truth, many of my belongings are still in boxes. Although I feel I should unpack, for some reason, I am not motivated to do so. The boxes are filled with the accumulation of my life thus far.

Things I brought from the house where I lived for many years, documents from my working days, and mementos. Of course, there are things I need. But right now, I am more strongly drawn to new environments and new possibilities than to taking those items out one by one and reflecting on the past.

In the morning, I wake up feeling the breeze from the ocean. I watch the sky while drinking coffee. I continue my Tai Chi and walking. In September, I plan to participate in a yoga and Enneagram retreat on the island of Paros in Greece. And lately, I have been researching the SpaceX IPO.

At first glance, these might sound like unrelated topics. But to me, everything is connected by a single thread.

There is one common thread in the things that move me: the “exploration of human potential.” I have studied psychology, art therapy, and counseling. Afterward, I worked in Silicon Valley for over 30 years, and spent 13 years at Tesla.

Looking back, I think all of those paths began with an interest in human potential. How much can a person grow? How far can consciousness expand? How will society evolve? Those questions have always been within me.

That is why I am also drawn to ancient Greece. I listen to the Oracle of Delphi and the words of the philosophers. What is a human being? How should we live? The themes that people questioned thousands of years ago have not faded even now.

At the same time, I am drawn to the future. AI is expanding our thinking, space exploration is taking humanity beyond Earth, and new energy is about to change the shape of civilization.

During my 13 years at Tesla, I witnessed moments where things many people thought were impossible became reality through technology and passion. What I am drawn to is not a specific company or person, but human potential itself.

And recently, I feel I have found the words to describe my life from here on out.

“A way of living that explores human potential while participating in the future.”

There is not just one way to participate in the future. It might be through learning. It might be through traveling. It might be through investing. It might be through supporting someone else's growth.

For me, traveling to Greece, learning Tai Chi, and considering an investment in SpaceX are all pointing in the same direction.

That is to explore human potential. And to continue being a part of the future that this potential is carving out.

There are still many unopened boxes in my room in Marina del Rey. But right now, I am more strongly drawn to the future that is about to unfold than to the past contained within those boxes. I am quite happy with that version of myself.
