Going back one month...

I had a conversation with someone who is a 'camera enthusiast'for the first time, and they asked me, 'Kanter-san, is there any camera you want right now?'to which I replied without hesitation, 'I'm interested in the FUJIFILM X-half!!'.

Currently, that 'FUJIFILM X-half' is in my hands. After repeatedly asking myself, 'Will I really use it?', I ended up buying it.

This time, rather than a review that has already been done to death on YouTube and elsewhere, I will ramble on about 'my own personal impressions'. If you are interested, please stay with me until the end.

・Pros

1. For me, the design of the 'X-half' is its greatest appeal!!

I have always loved the 'look' of FUJIFILM cameras. 80% of the reason I bought the 'X-half' is concentrated here. The 'retro, mechanical structure' woven by this retro body is just amazing! (*The price isn't cute at all, though!!)

2. The 'gimmick' called a high-spec 'toy camera' is adorable

You can actually turn the lever for a 'retro way of using it', and it also has an 'eccentric gimmick' that allows you to fit two 'half-size photos' into one set which is just too wonderful♬ (*'eccentric gimmick' (Combinations of 'photo & photo' or 'photo & video' are also possible. From the smartphone app, you can even 'choose your preferred photo combinations', which is an excellent feature)

I view the 'X-half' as a 'super high-end upgrade' to a toy camera.

3. A masterpiece that brings the nostalgic depiction of 'Utsurundesu' (QuickSnap) into a 'compact digital camera'

The biggest selling point of the 'X-half' lies in its 'nostalgic photo depictions'. Even though it is digital, it features the ability to capture various textures in a single shot through combinations of different film (functions).

Since it is half-size, it creates vertically long photos, making it perfect for 'Instagram' and the like, and it can even record short videos, which makes me feel, 'You did it, FUJIFILM!!'.

These days, I feel that cameras themselves are expensive due to rising parts costs and the like. Also, in recent years, “smartphone camera performance has improved” and there are also “retro camera features available in smartphone apps”.

“If I’m going to pay this much, there are plenty of alternatives”

Even so, when you consider purchasing a film camera as a hobby and developing the film, “the 'X-half' might be a good choice in the long run”. Also, it is “a masterpiece you can show off to those around you” ♬

2. Half-size

Actually, for me... “This is my first half-size camera ever!”
I had heard rumors about it, but since I am not used to taking vertically oriented photos, I find it difficult, while at the same time, I feel that “being able to shoot with a worldview I’ve never had before” is interesting. Also, by holding the camera vertically, you can take horizontal photos, so you can enjoy it without any issues ♬

3. The meaning of the '1-inch' display

To be honest, the “1-inch display” is just an extra. Although the “sensitivity for sliding and swiping is good”, I feel it is difficult to check photos on a monitor of this size.

But you know... actually, when the photos you’ve taken “Oh, so this is it”, that is also “quite emotional”.

4. Pixel count (photo quality)

The reputation is that it's slightly better than smartphone photos, but “personally, I can be fully satisfied” is what I would say. The fact that you “cannot do Raw development” (*only “JPEG”), and the “pixel count issue” will likely be satisfying enough once you actually take photos.

To be honest, my evaluation is “I love toy cameras, so I'm satisfied!”.

You might even come to love the boldness of the “FUJIFILM X-half”; while the number of disadvantages is concerning, you will likely think of it as more than that: “a compact digital camera that offers a valuable and unique experience”!

It is different from the “Ricoh GR III” which has many fans; rather, it is better to purchase and use it as an “item with specifications close to a toy camera” that “truly shows its potential only when linked with a smartphone”.

[Uses... A single device that can handle everything from daily life to SNS]

1. For daily use, it is perfect for recording

With the new OS, the “Journal” app can now be used on “iPad” and “MacBook”, so I thought “maybe I'll start keeping a 'photo diary' instead of a 'picture diary'”.

Snap one photo of the day with the “X-half” and just drop it into the “Journal” app. This will probably be my favorite way to use it♬

2. Utilize the aspect ratio for 'Instagram'

I think this is suitable for many people. As you post, there will be more opportunities to “share photos” or “create Reel videos”♬

3. For things like 'travel,' 'food tours,' and 'outfit of the day'

'X-half' Make the most of its features to snap photos at shops you visit while traveling. It's also wonderful to use it to capture videos of food and drinks, etc.♬

For things like your outfit of the day, it might be interesting to combine a photo of just the clothes with a photo of you wearing them into a single shot.

・A compact digital camera named 'X-half' that stirs your creativity

This is a rough idea of how to use it, but you can find various applications for it. Furthermore, by changing the film, etc., it becomes possible to capture 'an even more emotional shot.' This is the 'X-half's' greatest strength and most attractive part!

But it wasn't something I could easily get my hands on, and it was out of stock...

Now, I have finally been able to buy it, and it will surely join my 'EDC' collection♬
The size, which lets me pack the excitement of 'what kind of photos will I take today' into my bag, is also wonderful!

Also, coexistence with the 'Paper Shoot' is possible!!

It is no exaggeration to say that I bought both, precisely because I can 'find differences in the images they capture'. I really want to take these 'toy cameras' out on a trip♬
