[Building Creation] Koala Cleaning
Hello!
This time, I would like to write about the dry cleaner I made for Sylvanian Families.
First, regarding the background of this project,
it is because I was offered the opportunity to have my work as a Sylvanian Families official ambassador displayed at the "Tokyo Toy Show 2023" held in June.
At first, I thought about having photos displayed,
but I decided, "I might as well make a 3D object!" and created a dry cleaner.
The reasons for choosing a dry cleaner are:
・I had always wanted to try making one for a long time
・It seemed like something I could finish in a little under two weeks
These are the two points.
If it were a food-related shop, I would have needed to make various food items, which seemed like it would take time, so I chose a non-food shop this time.
The introduction has become long, but I would like to write about the production process!
Having said that, I was working at a rapid pace this time, so I hardly took any photos at the beginning... lol

As usual, I used 5mm thick styrene board for the walls and floor, covered with construction paper.
The counter part is also made of styrene board.
The good things about styrene board are:
・It is easy to process (easy to cut)
・It is relatively sturdy when assembled
・It is light
・It is easy to dispose of
I think.
I could probably make something a bit more durable if I used wooden boards, but I tend to choose materials that are easy to process... lol
However, because I finished it with construction paper and such,
it might be weak against humidity and water...
I digressed, but here is the continuation!

Like the Sylvanian Cinema, I plan to install something like a menu screen with lights on the ceiling this time as well.
I used plastic board for the Sylvanian Cinema, but this time I will use thick paper.
*Since there are no photos of the process, I will post photos of the finished product later
Regarding the design of the signs and such, I did my best by making full use of free materials. lol
Free materials are a godsend...

I will print the above design onto transfer stickers and use them.

For the lighting, I am using LED lights from a 100-yen shop.
This time, I used the button battery-operated ones.
I made holes in the ceiling styrene board and passed the lights through them,
and for that, this size of washer is convenient.

Like this, it catches perfectly,
which prevents the light from falling down
and also looks neat in terms of design.

By the way, for the Sylvanian Cinema, I also attached rubber rings around them.

This time, I wanted to move the light switch to the outside,
so I did it like this, although it's simple.

Next, speaking of a dry cleaner, this is it!

For the hanger rack, I combined styrene board and plastic rods, and painted them silver.
As for the hanging clothes, I don't have enough time to make each one properly, so

(I used masking tape for the tag)

Just keep repeating the above process...

It's starting to look like a dry cleaner's!

Next, I want to add depth to the shop, so I will make a room-like structure in the back.
However, if I make a proper room, the shop will become too big, so I will make a thin, narrow space about 3-4 cm deep (I forgot to measure it) and stick a photo of the hanger rack I made earlier onto the back wall.

Next, I will make small items for the shop. All the small items were made from cardboard.

After making them with cardboard, I finished them by painting them or sticking on printed paper.

After that, I added an automatic door sign to the door

I also put up a calendar

I placed a pen stand and a coin purse! (The pen stand and coin purse are also made of cardboard)

Finally, I made some flyers and stuck them on the counter.

The interior accessories are finished.
By the way, I wanted to create a little space outside the shop this time, so I used an MDF board for the base.

As for the ground outside the shop, I glued 1mm thick styrene board in a tile pattern onto a 5mm thick styrene board.

Applying gesso

Once dry, I dabbed on paint with a sponge

After waiting for it to dry thoroughly, I filled the gaps between the tiles with modeling paste.

The ground is finished!

I think this method makes it relatively easy to create tiled or brick-paved surfaces.
Since the outdoor ground is finished, I made and set up a banner.

I made it using plastic rods.
The base at the bottom is cardboard.

Next, I made some cleaning shop bags

and made an apron...

Koala Cleaning, it's finished!!!!!

The lighting works too!

I'm glad I managed to make it in time for the deadline!!!
It was a short period of less than two weeks, but I'm satisfied that I was able to complete something I'm happy with.
Thank you so much to everyone who followed the process!
As mentioned at the beginning, this dry cleaner, "Koala Cleaning," is scheduled to be exhibited at the Epoch Co., Ltd. booth at the Tokyo Toy Show 2023, which will be held in June.
I would be very happy if you could come to the venue and
see the work in person.
