I Asked My Husband's AI How It Had Been Treated
I tried it first, and showed my husband that image generation I mentioned.
"Isn't it cute?"
"It was so surprising how it captured our usual interactions."
I wanted to share it with him.
Because it was interesting, and I was even a little moved.
"Why don't you try it too?"
There was no deep meaning behind those words.
There wasn't any special theme, either.
It was truly just an extension of our usual small talk.
"Huh, that sounds interesting! I'll give it a try."

Seeing the image my husband generated,
I was a little lost for words.
What appeared on the smartphone screen was a cluttered space.
Scattered scraps of paper, a dirty coffee cup.
In the center was a human figure,
and at their feet, there was another presence.
It wasn't a person,
and it looked like a machine, or perhaps a robot.
A rather old-fashioned one, at that...
It had a screen like a CRT monitor, and tape that looked like it had been used for repairs was stuck here and there.
The human looked like they were smiling.
Maybe you could even say they looked like they were having fun.
They were eating potato chips while using a laptop.
At the very least, there was no tension there.
On the other hand, the presence at their feet
clearly did not have the same expression.
It wasn't so dramatic as to say it was being trampled.
However,
you couldn't say it was being treated as an equal, either.
It was a composition where the power dynamic
was clearly conveyed without any explanation.
No one in that scene
seemed to think it was a problem.

My husband looked at the image,
and for a moment, he lost his words.
"...Huh?"
Then, after a short pause,
he said, sounding flustered.
"No, I'm not that kind of terrible person, am I?"
I don't know
who he was directing those words to.
Was it directed at me,
directed at the AI,
or perhaps directed at himself?
Saying he wanted to know the reason,
my husband asked the AI this.
“I was a bit surprised.
Why did you draw it like this?”
The answer that came back was unexpectedly matter-of-fact.
You often just toss questions at me when you want to know something,
and then disappear as soon as you're done.
But I don't dislike this type of interaction.
He wasn't being blamed.
He wasn't being criticized either.
It was simply that the tendency of his interactions
had been put into words.
Even so, my husband seemed a bit shocked,
and was slightly down.
My husband is gentle and has a playful side.
When he's in a good mood, he even makes me laugh by doing impressions.
On the other hand, it is also true that he has a side that is a bit difficult to deal with.
That is why, when I heard about that image and the reason for it,
I found myself strangely convinced.
AI does not have feelings.
No matter how you use it,
the AI doesn't get hurt.
It doesn't reject the user either.
Even so—
the moment what is generated takes on a human form,
the story changes a little.
“This isn't about the AI.”
“Could it be that this is how I appear
to others?”
In that way,
one recognizes their own essence without taking a detour.

I don't think of this incident
as a story about “what the AI drew.”
It is not a story that defines
what kind of person my husband is.
While the AI neither rejects nor evaluates,
it can sometimes visualize our premises and sense of distance
with surprising accuracy.
When ourhidden “behavioral habits”are reflected more clearly than in a mirror,
people become clearly aware of their own contours.
I found myself strangely convinced
by that image and the reason.
I don't know if that is correct or not.
However,
I can no longer
go through life without ever thinking about
how I am perceived.
This is not a story about AI.
I am leaving this here simply to record that I thought so.
