It's okay if you fall asleep. I did my best today, too.
I intended to put the kids to bed, but before I knew it, it was morning.
I'm sure every mom raising children has had that experience at least once. I'm one of them.
Raising two sisters born in consecutive years, aged 2 and 0, the days fly by in a blur.
Making dinner, giving them baths, reading picture books...
I thought, 'Finally, I can take a breather,' but before I knew it, I had fallen asleep right next to the kids.
Yesterday was exactly like that, and thankfully, my husband took care of the housework. I have nothing but gratitude...
Apparently, he tried to wake me up a few times,
and it seems we had an exchange like, 'Are you going to sleep?' 'Yeah,'...
Honestly, I don't remember it at all. Haha.
It would be nice if I were the type to feel refreshed after a short nap, but once I fall asleep, I stay sleepy forever.
If I had my way, I'd want someone else to take over putting the kids to bed, but my older one says, 'I want Mommy.'
While I'm happy about that, I also feel, 'Please sleep with Daddy sometimes too!'
Honestly, I used to fall into self-loathing.
'I didn't get to do anything I wanted to do.'
'I couldn't get any time for myself.'
I used to blame myself for falling asleep like that.
But lately, I've been trying to change my way of thinking little by little.
'I worked hard enough to fall asleep.'
'Being able to sleep with my children is also a happy time.'
Since I started thinking that way, my heart has felt a little lighter.
I'm sure there are many moms out there working hard enough every day to fall asleep.
Whether you work or not,
the time spent with children really takes a lot of energy.
Even if the housework doesn't get done, or you can't find time for yourself, I think just being able to say, 'I was able to help my children feel safe and fall asleep today,' makes it a day of sufficient value.
Maybe I can use a little more time for myself tomorrow.
Holding onto that small hope, I'll go to sleep today while listening to my children's breathing.
It's okay if you fall asleep.
Mom is doing her best, for sure.
