Fighting Breast Cancer: Radiation Therapy Begins!
I went for my first radiation therapy session.
So, what was it like?
The machine itself is shaped similarly to a CT or MRI scanner.
You lie down and go into the dome.
Then, you start to hear mechanical noises.
I assume the sounds that follow are the radiation being administered.
It was a nostalgic sound, one I remember hearing long ago when I stood in the connecting area between train cars.
Just when I thought that, drums started to echo.
The sound was really distorted, like a child's toy drum.
It just kept beating away, boom-boom-boom.
It was such a clumsy drum sound that I found myself thinking,
If you're going to play, at least make it sound better.
That's what I thought.
This repeated a few times, and just as my body started to scream from being in the same position,
I heard a voice saying it was over.
The whole thing took about 30 minutes.
It didn't feel that long at all, though.
As for how my body felt after the treatment,
there was no pain and no fatigue.
Did you actually do anything?
I felt like asking that because I felt completely fine.
Where exactly did they radiate?
They said they would radiate my neck from both the front and the back, but
I didn't even have to change my position.
Is this really it?
I wanted to ask that.
Of course, I didn't actually say it.
And so, the radiation therapy ended.
There are 24 more sessions to go.
For now, my only concern is getting dermatitis.
Going to the hospital every day is just a hassle,
but since there are no other issues,
I'm going to do my best to keep going.
