Thoughts and such on my first solo exhibition...
Well, it's been almost two weeks since my first solo exhibition ended, and I still haven't finished writing all the thank-you notes... People I need to email, people I need to send postcards to... and for some, a whole new conversation starts from there, so there's no end to it... Behind the scenes, I've also been dealing with the chaos of my elderly parents at the same time... I want to be more efficient next time...
But anyway, I want to wrap everything up regarding the exhibition (except for shipping the paintings) by this weekend... And I want to move on to the next phase...
So, “Impressions” and “Afterword” were going to be separate articles, but I'm just going to write them all out at once.
Impressions received
🎨 For some reason, it calms my heart. It's like the feeling of relief when looking at nature.
🎨 The colors are beautiful, and the layered textures are even more wonderful; I looked back at them many times.
🎨 It was very artistic and captivated my heart.
🎨 The more you look at it, the more depth it has. I could look at it forever and never get bored.
🎨 Energy is floating and gushing out from the flat surface.
🎨 Your skills have improved significantly since the group exhibition.
🎨 The titles and paintings match, which is convincing.
🎨 None of them are alike; each one is filled with mental landscapes and soul, it's a masterpiece.
🎨 The way you title your work is stylish.
🎨 You have so many drawers (of ideas)!
🎨 The use of color is very good.
🎨 I felt energized.
🎨 They were all shining and worth seeing!
🎨 You're unleashed, aren't you?
🎨 I was strongly impacted by the clear radiance emitted by the paintings.
🎨 I was charmed not only by the works but also by your personality.
My own afterword
Regarding only the people I invited myself, it turned out that the number of visitors was double what I expected. (Including surprise guests and those I couldn't meet. I had friends from elementary, middle, high school, and college all come. ← Some even came from the countryside and arrived on the day they landed at Haneda.)
Even though I sent out sudden announcement postcards without any preamble and only added a word or two. (Excluding my few fellow artist friends I made at group exhibitions...) Even though most people were by no means familiar with abstract painting, even unexpected people were very interested and looked at them intently and immersed themselves in them.
Before it started, I thought, "Will abstract painting really be accepted?" "What if they think it's incomprehensible?" But when I opened the lid...
What's strange is that even though it had been a very long time for everyone, there was almost no conversation like "How have you been?" "What are you doing?" or "I wonder how so-and-so is doing?" and they left satisfied with conversations purely through art.
“Things finished by looking at oneself and (like a shogi puzzle) becoming 'nothing' with every brushstroke are imbued with soul and have persuasiveness. They become things that attract people even if they don't know why.”I'm glad I believed in my mentor's words and kept going!!! I decided once again that I will continue to devote myself without wavering from my core.
At the wrap-up party, my mentor said, “'It's abstract art, so maybe they won't understand' is Yuki-chan's own assumption, a fantasy you're creating yourself. You're just setting up a defensive line so you don't get hurt (this is also a form of ego). Even if there are people with prejudices, you have to have the attitude that you will overturn them. We are the advertising towers of the universe.” he said.
Ha~~~~~~~~~ I see~~~~~~~~~... Indeed!!!
...I have no words. I'm truly glad I have this mentor...
Since this was held at the same time as my mentor's solo exhibition, I was able to go in and out of my mentor's exhibition venue, and it was a meaningful byproduct that I could not only enter my mentor's network but also introduce my own acquaintances, relatives, and friends, and have a relaxing exchange mixed with art discussions.
What my mentor says like a mantra, “Time of light particles,” “Resonance, sympathy, sharing,” so this is what it meant!!!!!
