You don't have to post every day. But, engage with note every day.
Thank you for visiting.
I am Kafu, aiming to be a star for the middle-aged.
Today, I will talk about building habits for side hustles.
Having said that, this is also a message to myself.
"I started note, but I'm about to give up because I can't post every day..."
Aren't there many people who have that worry?
Certainly, some people who are successful on note continue to "post every day."
However, it is quite a high hurdle for beginners to suddenly start posting every day.
Therefore, what is important is not "posting every day," but I would like to propose "building a habit of engaging with note every day."
What does it mean to engage with note every day?
When told "you don't have to post every day,"
"Then, is once a week okay?"
You might think that. But that is not the case.
What is important is "to open note every day and make time to engage with it, even if just a little."
For example, how about the following actions?
Think about the structure of an article
Review articles you wrote in the past
Read and learn from other people's articles
Take notes on ideas
Write a little bit of an article draft
If you continue these actions, your awareness of note will not be interrupted even on days you "don't write." As a result, it becomes easier to continue.
Benefits of engaging every day
1. It becomes easier to continue
If you think, "It's impossible to keep posting every day," you might end up quitting note altogether.
However, if you lower the bar and decide to "engage with note even a little bit," you can continue without pressure.
2. It becomes easier to accumulate ideas
When you interact with note every day, ideas like "Maybe I should write an article about this?" naturally start to bubble up. This lowers the hurdle for writing articles, and your posting frequency will gradually increase.
3. Your writing skills will improve
It is often said that "the more you write, the better you get," but you can also improve by "increasing the time you spend thinking." Just thinking about the structure of an article or reading other people's writing will polish your writing skills.
How can you make it a habit?
To engage with note every day, it is important to create an "environment that is easy to continue in."
1. Even just 5 minutes a day is OK
Thinking "I have to finish one article!" becomes a burden. I suggest starting by deciding to "just open note for 5 minutes."
Especially when you are just starting out, the experience curve has a significant effect. Even just 5 minutes can lead to big changes when accumulated.
2. Incorporate it into your routine
For example,
Open note when you wake up in the morning
Jot down ideas on your smartphone during your lunch break
Write one line of a draft before going to bed at night
If you make it a part of your life in ways like these, it becomes easier to continue.
3. Make actions other than writing OK too
If you set "posting every day" as your goal, your motivation will drop on days you couldn't write. Instead, consider "actions other than writing articles" as time spent engaging with note.
Read someone else's article
Write a comment
Rewrite past articles
To take an extreme example, if you write your articles on a computer, even if you don't write an article, just placing your hands on the keyboard and saying, 'I did my best today!' is fine.
I do this quite often (laughs).
These are also excellent 'habits for engaging with note'.
Summary
What is important for continuing note is not 'posting every day', but 'engaging with note every day'.
If you touch note even a little bit every day, the hurdle for writing articles will naturally lower, and continuing will become easier.
Since you have started, I believe it is most important to cultivate a mindset that allows you to continue above all else.
I would be very happy if this article helps you continue your note writing activities in a fun way.
In closing
My goal is to create income outside of my main job as a side hustle.
Income means earning money and being useful to others.
I think it is the same for everyone, but in your main job as a company employee, you have to complete your tasks regardless of whether you feel like it or not.
This is a reminder to myself that side hustles are not about earning money easily, but that they need to be turned into a habit just like a main job, and approached without being swayed by one's mood.
Actually, I have been slacking off a little bit.
Thank you for reading until the end.
