7-Day Book Cover Challenge Day 2... "The Historical Position of the World and Japan"

Image 1

The following is a repost from Facebook. Written on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

The second installment of the Kyoto School. A book banned by GHQ. Published in 1943. A record of intellectual service to the nation by four of the leading philosophers of the time (students of Kitaro Nishida: Masaaki Kosaka, Keiji Nishitani, Iwao Takayama, and Shigetaka Suzuki. Suzuki's specialty was history). It depicts a grand roundtable discussion that sought Japan's position and path in world history through philosophical wisdom gained by digesting Western philosophy of history. It continues to acutely question the possibilities of philosophy (in a broad sense, scholarship).

In my own judgment, I believe this is the highest-level roundtable discussion in modern Japan. However, because the book cannot be republished due to the wishes of the bereaved family, it has become a legendary masterpiece (a notorious book that, even if it appears in used bookstores, is often prohibitively expensive).

Even so, the content is wonderful, so I am introducing a video with commentary by Kanji Nishio.

There are many books banned by GHQ that have excellent content. I intend to introduce several more banned books in the future.

I pass the baton to Mr. Kubo, a fellow Shinto studies colleague. If you have the time, please take it on.
