Why Thinking of the Market as a Living Thing Makes Winning at FX Easier: Cultivating Flexible Thinking, Adaptability, and Intuition

I started FX when I was an office worker, and at first, I believed that if I analyzed the charts properly and followed the rules, I would win. But the reality wasn't that simple; I was tossed around by a market that didn't move according to my set rules, and I kept losing. That was when I realized, 'The market is just like a living thing.' It is constantly changing, and it almost never shows the same face as it did yesterday.

Having this sense that 'the market is a living thing' naturally leads to flexible thinking. I have a somewhat laid-back personality, so at first, I wasn't good at changing things once I had decided on them. But the market doesn't wait. I realized painfully that instead of forcing things to match my predictions, I needed the flexibility to change my mind if I felt that the atmosphere had shifted.

I also think adaptability is very important. There were many times when I set up a trade thinking, 'This pattern will be fine,' only for the flow to suddenly change and result in a stop-loss. At first, I was frustrated and irritated, thinking, 'This is unexpected,' but that's just how the market is. The more I resisted change, the narrower my perspective became, and before I knew it, I was repeating the same mistakes. That is why, by thinking 'it is natural for things to change,' I can feel ready to respond without panicking.

Another thing I felt was important is intuition. Of course, analysis is necessary, but when you watch the market for a long time, a feeling arises like, 'This feels dangerous' or 'Maybe I should wait.' I have a bit of a soft spot for myself—I'm even a little self-conscious about my weight (laughs)—and there were times when I ignored my intuition because I lacked confidence. But once I started valuing that inner voice, the result was a decrease in forced trades.

I think FX is like having a conversation with the market. Instead of trying to control a market that changes like a living thing, you should try to understand your partner. Accept it with flexible thinking, adapt to changes, and trust your own intuition. If you are currently feeling exhausted from being tossed around by the market, please try thinking of it as a 'living thing' just once. I am sure your heart will feel a little lighter, and your approach to trading will change.
