Soundtrack Lover
For a while, I grew tired of music with lyrics and stepped away from it.
What I listened to often during that time were movie soundtracks.
Soundtracks invite you directly into the world of the film without the mediation of lyrical, poetic worlds.
Classical music is sometimes used in films, and when it fits, it feels as if it were composed a hundred years ago specifically for that movie. When I hear 'Also sprach Zarathustra,' the opening of 2001: A Space Odyssey comes to mind, and when I hear 'Ride of the Valkyries,' I can see the helicopters from Apocalypse Now.

Some pieces, after being composed for films, go on to demonstrate a presence all their own, such as when performed by an orchestra. One such film composer is Lalo Schifrin. He worked on the music for Mission: Impossible (originally the theme for the TV series Mission: Impossible), Dirty Harry, Enter the Dragon, Jaws, and others. Like classical music, I enjoy listening to them.

It's fun to listen to soundtracks while self-brainwashing into thinking I'm an astronaut, a spy, or a kung fu master; when I step outside, even the same scenery looks different.
I will compose a tanka poem.

Perhaps this is a spy's digital detox
(Bonus) Tomoyasu Hotei's Mission: Impossible was intensely cool, so here it is.
