Why I Organize Projects
I want to bring a fresh breeze to note.
To "bring a fresh breeze" means to create a community consisting of fluid connections rather than fixed ones.
Many human relationships are closed and fixed within herds. Whether it be countries, companies, factions, neighborhoods, or groups of friends, the units vary.
Forming herds is a human habit that has existed since the dawn of hunting and agriculture. While it has the benefit of making things possible through the collective work of groups with shared interests that one could not achieve alone, it also has its downsides.
By drawing lines inside and outside the herd, people distinguish between those within and those without. Conflict and exclusion occur because of these herds—be they national borders, factions, or groups.
Furthermore, a function to preserve the herd—an organization—becomes necessary. A hierarchy that spreads from the top, such as a president, CEO, representative, or gang leader, down to the base. Once a hierarchy is formed, struggles to gain advantageous positions within it arise once again.
I am not confident about the scale of a country, but I dislike every kind of herd, from groups led by a gang leader to factions and departments within a company. The division between inside and outside the herd, the hierarchy for preservation, internal power struggles and factionalism, rules and codes, peer pressure, entanglements, ostracism...
That said, I don't want to be a so-called lone wolf. It is enough to connect with the necessary people when necessary. It means there is no need to hang out with the same crowd all the time. My ideal is to have an equidistant relationship with people regardless of which herd they belong to. Every encounter is a fluid, once-in-a-lifetime connection. This is what brings the fresh breeze.
The Everyone's Haiku Contest is also run based on this philosophy.
The Haiku Contest is a borderless and open project that removes all barriers. That is precisely why experienced poets and beginners, novelists and painters and musicians, business people and shut-ins, elementary school students and the elderly, and able-bodied and disabled people can form once-in-a-lifetime connections.
There is no hierarchy between judges, participants, and organizers. The judges are also participants, and the participants are also judges. The contest hosts and organizers are not authorities, but rather supporters who help build excitement for the participants.
I pay close attention to ensure it does not become a closed, insider project. That is also why I do not keep the roles for cup names or production (images and music) fixed. I also pay close attention to ensure that I myself do not become an authority.
You can make friends without belonging to a herd.
Even without a herd, you can build relationships where you help and are helped.
If I were to say such things in the real world, I would undoubtedly be laughed at for talking about something like a utopia.
However, isn't it fine for note to be a utopia?
