Life as a Couple

Our only son left home to live on his own as soon as he started university.
Since it was a university far away, it couldn't be helped...
(I was very lonely😭...)
As a result, it became a life for just the two of us.

Having said that, he had been going to prep school every day since his second year of high school,
so for those three years—second year, third year, and his gap year—
the only time the family gathered was on Sunday nights.
Because of that situation,
even after our son started living on his own,
our lives didn't change much.
I guess we had been getting used to it little by little.

How is it, just the two of you?
Do you have things to talk about?
Isn't it awkward without the kids?
Friends sometimes ask me these things.
When asked how it is, well...
It feels like we've returned to the life we had before our son was born, I suppose?
It's completely different from when we were newlyweds, though...

We have always liked alcohol, so we have a drink together every evening.
Sometimes we go out for drinks together, too.
We talk about this and that while watching TV,
or sometimes we don't talk at all when we're tired...

We also go out for drinks with our respective friends or colleagues.
I have my fan activities,
and my husband goes to play tennis,
so we have our own time,
while also having time to spend together.
That's how it is.

There was a period when we fought a lot before reaching this point.
I think I was especially irritable when the kids were small.
There were even times when I thought, 'That's it, I'm getting a divorce!'
I still get irritated sometimes,
but I suppose that goes both ways.

Well, I don't know how much longer we'll be able to spend our time freely like this,
but while enjoying what we can do now,
I intend to prepare for the old age that is coming soon.
