Wishes Come True - Suzumushi-dera Temple -
Said to make wishes come true
Known affectionately as Kyoto's Suzumushi-dera Temple
Myotokuzan Kegon-ji Temple
(Myotokuzan Kegon-ji)
Do you know it?
Why is it
called the
"Temple where wishes come true"?
Famous at Suzumushi-dera is the "Kofuku Jizo-sama" (Happiness Jizo)

Most Jizo statues are typically depicted sitting,
but the Kofuku Jizo-sama is
distinctive for standing while wearing straw sandals as a feature
The reason for this is,
it is said that he will "walk to the home of the person who made the wish,
come to you,
and grant your wish."
That is what is passed down.

Visitors come from all over the country
and many say, "My wish came true, so I came for a thanksgiving visit."
There are many such people.
How to make a wish
Put your hands together in front of the Jizo statue
State your name and address in your heart
Make only one wish
is the custom.
"May my family be healthy"
"May my work go well"
"May I pass my exam"
Many people seem to make specific wishes like these.
The mysterious charm of Suzumushi-dera Temple
(Please be careful if you are not fond of insects)
From the end of summer to autumn, the "ring, ring"
sound of the bell cricket provides a pleasant melody.
Bell crickets.
The males rub their wings together
"I am a healthy male here!"
"Is there a female who will be my bride?"
they signal.
By rubbing their left and right wings together,
they produce a beautiful
ring, ring sound.
At this Suzumushi-dera Temple, you can actually
hear the sound of bell crickets all year round.
Normally, bell crickets only chirp in autumn,
but at Suzumushi-dera, the head priest and temple staff raise them
with great care, so regardless of the season,
their beautiful melody resonates.

It calms the mind
It is healing
It makes you feel positive
These are many of the impressions we hear.
What people whose wishes came true
often say
Stories from people who feel their wishes have come true include:
having good encounters
succeeding in job hunting or entrance exams
resolving family problems
finding support for the heart while wishing for recovery from illness or injury
and so on.
However, it is not proven that they will "definitely come true,"
but rather it is due to
faith and connections.
Visiting to give thanksis also important
When your wish comes true
"Thank you very much"
to express gratitude to the Kofuku Jizo-sama
It is the custom at Suzumushi-dera Temple to pay a visit of thanks.
It is also a temple visited by many
wishing for health recovery or family happiness. 🙏✨
By the way, when I made a wish
to the Jizo statue at Suzumushi-dera,
it was just one wish in my late twenties.
There was someone I liked at the time,
and I made a slightly silly wish:
"I want to date the person I like."
He is my husband now‼️
About 20 years ago, after we started dating, we went together to pay a visit of thanks.
My husband didn't believe in it,
but I believe that thanks to the Jizo statue,
our bond was formed. 😊

While listening to the "sound of the bell crickets"

✨️Whether you believe it or not is up to you✨️
