The Gentle Perspective of the Middle Way: A Calm Practice for Recognizing Thought Patterns 🌿
We live our daily lives swaying between various extremes.
Trying too hard or giving up too easily.
Prioritizing others too much or putting ourselves last.
Amidst all this, the term "Middle Way" recently came up in conversation with friends.
They grew up in the atmosphere of temples since childhood and now work in fields that support others.
In our calm exchange, these words were shared.
Walking the middle path, without leaning toward either side, is the most peaceful way.
I felt a deep stillness in those words.
And I was reminded once again that the Middle Way is the "wisdom of avoiding extremes."
Observing a mind that easily sways
The more we seek perfection, the more suffocating it becomes,
and when we don't want to do anything at all, that too becomes painful.
When we decide things in black or white,
we sometimes lose sight of the kindness found in the gray.
Thought patterns quietly govern the movements of our minds.
That is why, simply by noticing the sway in our own way of thinking,
our hearts gradually become lighter.
The wisdom of balance: The Middle Way
The Middle Way is a way of living that chooses harmony without leaning toward either side.
Working hard and resting are both important.
Caring for others and cherishing oneself are both precious.
The perspective of the Middle Way
teaches us that we don't have to choose one or the other.
Tips for reviewing your thought patterns 🌿
🌿 What meaning might this have if viewed from a different perspective?
☀️ Let's focus on what we can do right now.
🌸 It's okay not to be perfect.
🤝 Let's choose options that respect both others and ourselves.
Just by doing that, the tension in your thinking may loosen a little,
and a new path may come into view.
To live calmly
When you look up at the sky, clouds drift in every direction.
The wind and the sun do not choose one side.
The human heart, too, is surely
more natural when it sways moderately without leaning to either side.
The kindness of the Middle Way already exists within you.
May you be able to remember that kindness, little by little.
