I passed the entrance exam for the Department of Information and Computer Sciences for the 2026 academic year, so I decided to write a transfer experience report.
Introduction
Since I passed the entrance exam for the Software Science Course in the Department of Information and Computer Sciences at the Osaka University School of Engineering Science, I would like to post this transfer experience report. I hope this will be of some help to those applying for transfer.

Exam and Perceived Accuracy Rate
It seems that entrance exams at every university tended to be more difficult this year. In some places, there were even questions from fields that had never appeared before, making it quite a tough exam season.
For Osaka University, the mathematics section followed the same trends as previous years, but the mechanics section of the physics exam included a problem involving something other than a rigid body, which had not appeared in the past exams I had practiced.
Please refer to the past exam papers sent to each school for the actual questions.
Mathematics: 80%
〇Problem 1 (Calculus): Approximately 50%
I felt it was more difficult compared to the past three years, which had a trend of becoming easier. There were problems that you couldn't calculate unless you knew the specific method, so I think it was quite strict.
〇Problem 2 (Linear Algebra): 100%
In terms of difficulty, I feel it was easy. However, the volume of calculations and the number of questions were quite high, so I think it is very beneficial to practice using your time effectively.
〇Problem 3 (Probability): 70%
I don't think the difficulty was that high compared to previous years, but I made mistakes due to the anxiety caused by the time I spent on Problem 2.
Physics: 80%
〇Mechanics: 70-80%
A problem involving a system of particles appeared, which had never been asked in any of the past exams I had seen. Such situations can occur in actual exams, so I strongly recommend practicing a wide range of topics.
〇Thermodynamics: 100%
The trend was exactly the same as before. I was able to handle it easily with 'Mathema' and 'Ryomon no Kaze'. I noticed and corrected a calculation error in the final problem, so I believe it is 100%.
Interview and Oral Examination
Number of interviewers: 3
Duration: About 10 minutes
Atmosphere: I didn't feel any pressure at all.
Flow
Upon entering the room, state your examinee number and name, and you will be prompted to sit in the designated seat.
The oral examination begins. You may use the whiteboard behind you to answer.
I was only able to answer two questions, and when a question came up that I didn't know, I made sure to say 'I don't know'. The fact that I passed means it is better to answer the questions you can than to give a strange answer to a question you don't know.
Examinees and Acceptance Rate
5 accepted out of 12 applicants; acceptance rate 2.4x
The Department of Information and Computer Sciences is a popular department, so I didn't expect them to accept so many. Given the variation in the number of successful applicants in the past, the School of Engineering Science may set a cutoff, and while I don't know how that is determined, there is a possibility of a screening process.
Conclusion
This has become long, but thank you for reading!
To be honest, I think the exam is half ability and half luck. There is the compatibility with the questions, and there might be delays in public transportation. However, I think you can reduce the luck factor by preparing in advance. I started quite late, so I ended up having to study on a very tight schedule. I believe those who take the exam for the School of Engineering Science are very capable, so please continue to put in the right effort. I am rooting for you!
