Health checkups are very important!! I realized this firsthand.
Hello! This is Emirabi.
I have been working hard every day making LINE emojis...
Actually, I haven't been—sob, sob.
Everyone, do you get regular health checkups?!
Ladies, do you get regular cervical and breast cancer screenings?!
This is truly important.
Because I ended up being hospitalized in an emergency—sob.
One evening, while I was working on CrowdWorks and idly thinking, "I'd like to do one more job on CrowdWorks," I was suddenly struck by intense pain in my lower abdomen!!!
"Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch!!!"
I got off my chair, crawled on the floor, and waited for the pain to subside.
But it didn't subside at all.
I realized this was bad, so I searched for a hospital on my smartphone. Panicking that the lower abdominal pain might be related to the uterine fibroids I was diagnosed with a few years ago, I had my child call my husband, who was working in another room, and decided to have him take me to the hospital.
The result was ovarian tumor torsion. This means a tumor formed on my ovary, grew, and caused the ovary to twist.
(Apparently, 90% of these tumors are benign.)
The blood vessels to the ovary twisted, causing severe pain in my lower abdomen.
My white blood cell count was very high, and there was a possibility of emergency surgery, which scared me quite a bit. However, a CT scan showed that blood was still flowing to the ovary, so I was admitted to the hospital for observation for the time being.
It seems it was also necessary to clarify with an MRI scan what was unclear from the CT scan alone.
If the blood flow had been poor, the ovarian tissue could have been damaged and become necrotic, requiring emergency surgery, but I was able to avoid that.
That said, ovarian tumors, like uterine fibroids, are treated by:
〈Observing if they are small〉
〈Removing them if they grow〉
So, since my ovarian tumor has already grown, if I don't have it removed, I don't know when it might twist again and cause intense pain.
I can't carry around a bomb like that—sweat.
Since my white blood cell count was normal by the next day, I have been temporarily discharged for now, and it looks like I will decide when to have surgery based on the results of the MRI scan I will have later.
I deeply regretted not having regular checkups.
If I had properly!! had regular checkups, I think I could have avoided experiencing that intense pain and just had the hospital say, "(The ovarian tumor or uterine fibroid) has grown, so let's remove it."
Regular checkups are truly important!!
That kind of intense pain... I never want to experience it again.
I couldn't stand up, and I thought I might lose consciousness from the pain, so I thought, "I can't go to the hospital in such tattered loungewear! I can't go in this pink outfit that I'm already too old to wear outside!" and, with the help of my children while in intense pain, I changed into better clothes—sweat.
And, thinking I might be hospitalized because of this pain, I had my children put the necessary items into a bag under my instructions.
Being hospitalized is very lonely and makes me want to cry, andI really, really felt grateful to be able to wake up in the morning feeling healthy.
Also, I thought (in my case):
If my husband or children were hospitalized, I (think I) could gather the necessary items, but if I were hospitalized, would everyone know what I need?
I myself forgot my toner and lotion, and I panicked because there was no toner or lotion available among the things I could borrow on the ward or at the hospital convenience store.
Also, since I wear contact lenses, I was in trouble because the hospital convenience store didn't have eye drops that can be used while wearing contacts.
I will prepare a hospital set from now on.
Everyone, regular health checkups are truly important.
What could have been covered by just the cost of a regular checkup ended up costing a lot of money.
I also needed many injections and IV drips, which were painful.
For my own sake and for my family's sake, I want to get regular checkups and live a healthy life every day.
For now, I will have the MRI scan this weekend.
This involves using a contrast agent, and when I was admitted for the emergency, I also used a contrast agent for the CT scan. At that time, my blood vessels were thin, and the needle didn't go in well in two places. Finally, I was told, "I'll try sticking it here. It's going to hurt," and it really, really hurt—sob.
I'm already scared thinking that I have to do this again.
(I think that if my blood vessels weren't thin, it wouldn't be this painful.)
Health checkups are very important!!!
I know you are busy, but everyone, please get a health checkup, and for women, please also get cervical and breast cancer screenings.
Thank you for reading until the end!
