[Weekly Poem/Essay Introduction] For those of you spending sleepless nights
Good evening! This is Takano, a Jiyucho staff member.
Before I knew it, the Olympics had started, August had arrived...
I feel like I've been completely left behind by the flow of time lately (lol).
Recently, we've been busy with various exciting projects for Jiyucho's 5th anniversary on August 11th, so things have been a bit chaotic (lol), but how are you all doing?
Summer colds seem to be going around, so please take care of your health♪
Well then, today I'd like to introduce another recommended poem or essay from the "Jiyucho Morning Scribbles"!
This week's piece: "Prelude to a Sleepless Night"
Voiceless
Tears of words that cannot reach
Washing away
A tired face is something left behind
The destination I head to without going back to retrieve it
A true face protected by the length of grown-out bangs
Able to walk a little more naturally than yesterday
A sad day because there are people I cannot save
A song I listen to, seeking salvation
It feels like it's ringing from further away than usual
The unreachable me
The cruelty of a night that is beautifully moderate
Whispering that it's enough to just live with all your might
The warmth of peace with a gentle voice
Eyes of a dream watching the situation from afar
Crossing several nights
Crossing a river
Staring at a red light and waiting
Passing through the day without talking to anyone
Eventually
Lifting my face
Taking a journey
Meeting
Laughing
Wishing
Praying
Reach
Becoming happy enough to cry
Wanting to live more and more
Even after using everything up
The nights that didn't allow me to sleep
Sing that if I'm going to get up, now is the time, and then they depart
It's morning

Comment from Jiyucho staff
I felt that the piece introduced this time is one that makes you think that even if your heart feels a little heavy, it will be okay.
When something sad or difficult happens, sometimes talking to someone and having them listen can make you feel better, but other times you might end up holding onto it without even feeling like talking to anyone.
Days where you go back and forth with the same emotions without being able to come to terms with that sadness within yourself.
Even at times like that, you will eventually be able to lift your face and start walking again. Even if I don't know how long it will take, I think it was a poem that quietly made me feel that days will surely come again when you feel happy or want to live more.
It seemed to give me the power to believe that even if things don't change all at once, a bright morning can arrive due to some casual trigger.
If you have a sleepless night, wouldn't it be wonderful to think of it as a prelude to the next step you'll take?
What did you all feel?
May you have a good morning tomorrow! Good night♪
About Jiyucho Morning Scribbles
Jiyucho Morning Scribbles are words written daily by Shohei Koyama, the owner of Jiyucho, who is a poet and essayist.
The works I introduce are sometimes poems that gently snuggle up to your feelings, or essays that write down daily thoughts that make you nod in agreement.
The content varies, but many of the writings are about cherishing the trivial times of casual days, or pieces that let you take a breather.
Since they can be read in a few minutes, please read them during a short break, while waiting for someone, or before you go to sleep.
