The True Nature of the Feeling That Your Life Is Slipping Away
Lately, I've been thinking about something.
"Doesn't it feel like my life is going downhill?"
I'm managing to get by at work.
My daily life hasn't fallen apart.
But I have no breathing room.
It feels like I'm just maintaining.
Honestly, it's tough.
■ I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way.
Since changing jobs in my 40s,
this feeling has increased.
No breathing room.
Always on edge.
No time to recover.
That's why,
I feel anxious when I think about the future.
■ Is it really "going downhill"?
But when I think about it a bit more calmly,
is it really going downhill?
I still have a job.
I have a family.
My life is being maintained.
Looking only at the facts,
things haven't fallen apart significantly.
■ Then what is this feeling?
Perhaps this is,
a state where recovery isn't keeping up.
My body is tired.
My mind isn't resting either.
I'm constantly being drained.
When this happens,
everything looks bad.
■ My thoughts are being pulled along.
When things are tough,
my current job looks like a failure.
My previous company looks better.
I feel anxious about what lies ahead.
Everything leans toward the negative.
■ So I won't make any decisions now.
I've decided something recently.
I won't make decisions in this state.
Whether changing jobs was the right move,
whether this company is a good fit,
I'll think about that,
once I've calmed down a bit more.
■ What I'm doing now is simple.
I'm not doing anything special.
I'm not forcing myself to work hard.
I'm prioritizing recovery.
That's all.
■ My honest feelings.
Even now, it's tough.
But I try to tell myself, "This isn't a state that will last forever."
I'm trying to think that way.
■ Finally.
If right now,
you feel like your life is slipping away,
you're running out of breathing room,
or you feel like nothing is going well,
if you're in that state,
it might not be "reality"
but rather a problem with your current state.
I'm still in the middle of it too.
But at the very least,
there are others who feel the same way.
Just being able to think that,
makes me feel a little bit better.
