[My Work] Wanting to secure top talent... Matching university sports clubs with companies [Recruitment Work]
Services that connect "university sports clubs" with "companies that become club sponsors" are gaining attention.
I read this in the news.
--
In Japan today, the labor market is facing a serious shortage of workers, and it seems that services matching companies with talented students who have sports experience are becoming popular.
Many university athletic clubs are in a state of chronic funding shortages
due to costs such as
equipment for competition, travel expenses for tournaments, and venue fees.
Therefore, by focusing on that,
it appears to be a service where
the company side takes on the financial burden of paying several hundred thousand yen annually as a sponsorship fee,
but
they gain the benefit of promoting their company to club members and increasing their brand awareness.
is how the service works.
-
Basically, it can be said that this is a service that offers benefits to both the sports clubs/members and the companies.
The more seriously university students engage in club activities, the more money it costs for the reasons mentioned above.
Therefore, to put it bluntly,“whether or not they have the money to continue competing at a high level, regardless of their actual athletic ability,”is what ends up determining the fulfillment of their university club life.
Given the above, since companies are providing the funding for university students to engage in activities as they wish, it can be said to be a very good service.
It is understandable that, even though only a year and a half has passed since the service was launched, over 200 club activities from more than 100 universities nationwide have registered.—

However, when I think about this service from the perspective of my main profession (in terms of HR and labor), I feel it contains some problematic points.
That is,
that it might lead to
“poaching students early” or “invisible constraints on student job hunting.”
That is what I mean.
I don't know the detailed terms and conditions, but presumably, as a basis for this service,
“The sponsor side must not demand anything from the students beyond financial support”
“The student side must not feel excessive obligation toward the sponsor”
I believe they are pledged to these points, but
the company side might ignore the above
the student side might read too much into the situation
I worry that it might end up like that.
If that happens, it leads to the aforementioned poaching of students.
In a situation where it cannot be said that the “university student job hunting schedule” is being properly followed, one must always keep in mind the danger that there may be people who try to abuse this service.
—
However, as mentioned above, if this service can be operated successfully, there is a high possibility that it will be a "win-win for both companies and students."
Since it has only been a year and a half since its launch, it is a service that I would like to keep an eye on to see how it develops.
