[Words that made me feel kindness] A story about how "words that made me feel kindness" is not the same as "kind words."
When I think of "words that made me feel kindness," I am reminded of the seniors I met in the retail industry where I started my first job after graduation, who taught me the foundations of being a working professional.
—
I belong to the employment ice age generation, and I didn't have anything I was particularly devoted to during my university days, nor did I have anything specific I wanted to do after getting a job and becoming a working adult.
Because of that, I didn't have any particular attachment to the company I joined, so I ended up working for a well-known local retail company.
About six months later, I was transferred to a small city in the northern part of Yamagata Prefecture. Having never left my hometown in the 22 years since I was born, I suddenly found myself living alone in a snowy place far from my parents' home, where I had no friends.
※I have also written an article about a short trip I took while reminiscing about that place.
At that workplace, I experienced culture shock from everything: the daily tasks, the nature of the customers who visited, and the part-time staff who worked at the store.
I don't think anyone will believe me even if I write this, but the new workplace had a large parking lot, and on the first day I went to introduce myself, I made eye contact with a giraffe from a traveling zoo that was being held in the parking lot—a memory I still can't forget lol. Also, when winter came,
a giant slide would appear when the snow from the large parking lot was piled up in one place.
Long icicles, or rather ice pillars, would appear, reaching from the store's roof to the ground.
Those kinds of things happened too.
However, looking back on that time, strangely enough, I almost never felt like I wanted to quit my job.
—
My direct supervisor at the time and the manager in charge looked like thugs, and their language was beyond bad lol, but I think it was a very easy and comfortable workplace to work in.
In other words, I believe that words and actions that make people feel kindness do not necessarily have to be kind words and actions. themselves.
If you (forcefully) try to act in a way that is kind to others or try to make them feel that you are kind, the success of that depends on the person's character.
However, even without forcing yourself, just by performing your regular duties and interacting with colleagues and clients within your own capabilities, I think the other person will feel your kindness.
I have also worked both as an employee and after starting my own business, hoping to become a reliable person like the supervisors I met in Yamagata Prefecture, but have I actually achieved that?
And will I be able to achieve it in the future?
I would like to continue my work while keeping that in the back of my mind.
