What is #Uniformization? The Best Way to Discover Your True Self
Hello, I am Self-Questioning Fashion Communication Akiya👗
This time, I would like to tell you about "uniformization," a practice that changed my life. I have uniformized my fashion and live with only 3 sets of clothes. (Sometimes they increase or decrease.) I have practiced this so thoroughly that I wear mostly the same clothes in summer, winter, and even abroad. It is quite eccentric.
Even for those who think, "I don't really want to be a minimalist...", I hope this helps clarify your thinking and provides hints for choosing clothes!

What is "#Uniformization"?
It is the practice of creating a pattern for your fashion and wearing a "small number of clothes" like a uniform. Minimalists are all practicing this. To be precise, I am not a "minimalist who lives with only the bare minimum," but rather closer to a "ultimate egoist who only wants to wear clothes they love," and I feel it suits me very well. By pursuing uniformization, I was able to deeply understand, "Oh, this is the kind of person I am."
Why did I decide to "uniformize"?
1. After resigning from the company where I had worked for 10 years, I found that I had no clothes in my closet that I wanted to wear. 2. I encountered clothes that made me feel, "I don't want to wear anything else but this!" I let go of almost all the clothes I owned and experimented to see how long I could live with just one dress.
What are the benefits of uniformization?

1. No more hesitation over clothes (saving time)
First of all, a major benefit is that I don't have to worry about what to wear. (I can't even worry about it anymore, haha.) After all, those are the only clothes I have to wear. I always wash them at night, hang them to dry in the room, and wear the dry clothes as they are. Since I have carefully selected them to suit most TPOs, there is no inconvenience. It does save time every day.
(In exchange, when I buy them, I choose them as if my life depends on it💪)
2. No dry cleaning costs (saving money)
Since I stopped buying clothes that require anything other than home care, my dry cleaning costs are zero. I also save the trouble of going to the dry cleaner, so I don't even know where the dry cleaner near my house is.
3. More room in the house (saving space)
People who love clothes have rooms overflowing with them, right? I used to have a closet packed full and over 10 large storage cases packed full as well. I live alone in Tokyo, so my room is extremely small... By reducing my clothes, I feel like my room is more spacious, and it has become a "comfortable room I want to come home to."
4. Becoming stylish (gaining confidence in your clothes)
Everyone who practices uniformization says, "Even though I had so many clothes before, I felt I wasn't stylish. By uniformizing, I gained confidence." I think this is because
"I concentrated my time, love, and money on one styling." It is truly "selection and concentration." Self-questioning fashion values "being able to have the confidence that you have thought things through yourself."
5. Deeply understanding yourself (self-understanding)
It might be embarrassing to suddenly start talking about self-improvement (blush), but this is by no means a suspicious story. Learning about uniformization became a trigger for me to think deeper than the ocean about "who on earth am I?" Convenience is a major benefit, but being able to know myself by carefully selecting my clothes was a major discovery.
What are the downsides of uniforming?

1. People might think it's suspicious if you wear the same clothes every day
I was a corporate employee for 10 years, so I understand the office environment, but if you just silently wear the same clothes every day, people might find it suspicious. The solution is simple: just declare, "I'm uniforming, so I wear the same clothes every day!" By declaring it, you can even find allies. If you have about two or three sets of clothes, you should be able to blend in naturally with societal trends.By declaring it, you can even find allies. 2. You might not be able to keep up with the laundry
No matter how drunk I am or if I have a cold, I always run the washing machine. In the five years since I started living alone, I have never once gone to sleep without doing my laundry. However, for those who say, "I often fall asleep," "I'm insanely busy with work," or "It's impossible for me," this might not be for you.
In other words, there are almost no downsides!
You get to wear clothes you love, save on dry cleaning, have more room in your home, and become more stylish! It's the best.
People who are not suited for uniforming

My fashion course clients include corporate employees, homemakers, doctors, flight attendants, and writers, and almost everyone tells me, "Uniforming is doable!" Those who have very large homes, lots of clothes, and use dry cleaning services almost daily have said, "I might not need to uniform, hehe ☺️ (gracefully)," but they also told me,
"The way you think about choosing clothes is very helpful, and I will put it into practice!" Life is diverse. People are diverse. Closets are diverse, too, aren't they? 👗
What kind of people are uniforming?

And so on, these illustrious "emperors of the stoic world" are also famous for "uniforming." Everyone wears clothes they have thought through carefully "in order to create something." It is said that this is "to reduce the number of decisions they have to make." Although it is a 2018 article, I was very influenced by this interview with Ichiro Yamaguchi. (The stoicism is irresistible!) ↓
Let's try uniforming your fashion for your time at home!
Try deciding on your own uniform for fun. Creating a perfect coordination is the shortest path to becoming the most stylish version of yourself.

The reason it's not 100 points might not be the "clothes"
When you do this "let's create your own perfect coordination" exercise, some people might realize, "Wait, maybe my problem isn't my clothes, but my makeup..." or "Maybe it's my hairstyle..."
Actually, I was the same. You there, who spends money on clothes but not on makeup or the hair salon! (Boom) The reason you feel like you're "not stylish" might lie elsewhere. Let's face the mirror and calmly ask ourselves questions.
The phenomenon of having many clothes but nothing to wear
Surprisingly, many people say "I love clothes, but I'm not picky about shoes." Yes, this was me in the past, too. The "phenomenon of having many clothes but nothing to wear" is actually often caused by "shoes chosen haphazardly." Please, make sure to find shoes you are truly satisfied with!
First, perfect one pattern
First, once you have perfected one pattern, try thinking about variations from there. (This is what I did when I started uniformization.) Master one set of clothes -> wear them constantly -> buy more once you find clothes you truly want to wear -> think about when to let go of the original clothes. Keep repeating this cycle to find your own unique "uniform."

Once you achieve uniformization, your life will become much richer
Ever since I uniformized my fashion, going out has become so much more fun. It's because I can stay true to myself no matter who I meet, and I can express my life and aesthetics through my clothes. I've been able to know myself more deeply, "This is how I'm going to live!" and I truly feel that my life has become richer now that my heart is settled.
I hope you all try practicing "uniformization" too! 🙌
