[3-Year Diary] Let's Keep a Fashion Diary👗 [Utilization Tips]

Hello, this is Self-Questioning Fashion Communication! My second book, "Learning to Love Yourself with a 'One-Set' Wardrobe," is now on sale! 😉 Please check it out↓↓↓

This time, I will talk about planning (Plan) and reviewing (Check) which are important for facing your fashion.✨

Even if you can "become stylish temporarily" by buying new clothes, I feel that "continuing to be satisfied with your style" is quite difficult.👗 To those who have taken my course, I tell them,

"It's easier to organize your thoughts on fashion if you actively post about your clothes on Twitter or note! 🐥", or it's good to do some self-questioning at Starbucks, or let's keep up with your imaginary closet! I use every means possible and tell them, "I want you to increase the opportunities to think about your fashion Plans and perform Checks! 💡", but there are many people who are not good at posting or digital tools and love handwriting!🖋

Today, I hope this will be a hint for those who say "I want to master fashion & I'm an analog person!"👀

Finding a 3-year diary at a bookstore📕

Do you all like keeping a diary? I have been writing a handwritten diary since I was about 10 years old. Writing down the day's events, people I talked to, things I ate or bought, and the clothes I wore at the end of the day makes me feel refreshed and helps me sleep peacefully. When I look back, it feels like I'm having a dialogue with my past self, which is very fun.

I used to write my diary in a Muji planner, but this year I bought something I happened to find at a bookstore called a "3-year diary". (There was also a 5-year diary, but I decided to try the 3-year one this time.)

I purchased the 3-year desktop diary A5 from Takahashi Shoten. It's sold by various manufacturers, so I think any one is fine.✨ It's about 2,000 yen.↓

By the way, my favorite pens are the Jetstream limited colors, Pistachio Yellow and Cream Peach.☺️🍑

The "What was I wearing in January?" problem that I worry about every year

Isn't it surprisingly difficult to think about spring or summer clothes when it's cold, or winter clothes when it's hot?⛄️🐚

I've been alive for over 30 years, and despite being a fashion stylist, I always spend my time saying the same things every year like "What was I wearing in January?" or "What sleeve length should I wear in June?"🌥

I am particularly bad at summer clothes (thin materials, sleeveless tops, etc.), and I usually try to get through the summer with spring clothes. However, because the period when "spring clothes" are sold is short, I always miss out on buying them and spend my time crying, "The sleeves are too short... I want sleeves...". (Many crazy fashion town brands sell cutting-edge spring clothes during the cold months of February and March, and I end up wearing those clothes in August. That's a gap of up to 6 months from purchase to actual wear!) Cute spring clothes aren't made in large quantities, so they sell out quickly.😭

"I don't want to miss out on buying them anymore—summer—👗" is how I feel.

The 3-year diary came with an [Annual Plan Table]
It is designed so that you can write the diary for the same day for 3 years on the same page.

"Past data" is the greatest weapon for planning👀

Using the 3-year diary this time, I gradually realized that it seems quite good as a "review & plan table for fashion". This is because "you can leave messages for your future self!" (With a normal 1-year diary, you rarely have the chance to look back, but with a 3-year diary, it naturally catches your eye.) Thinking back, when I used to be a department store buyer in Tokyo, I recorded all the plans and results for my sales floor on my PC. Checking and verifying past data was the basis for building the MD (merchandising, store deployment plans, etc.) for the next season.
Through this experience, I learned that what is necessary for planning is "past data"...👓✨

Let's become a "fashionable person" in 3 years!

If a fashion beginner thinks, "I'm going to become a fashionable person from now on!", I think a period of about 3 years is necessary.

For example, let's say you write down that you bought this piece of clothing in the summer of your first year, why you liked it, and what you learned from it. In the second year, you read that and spend your time looking for even better summer clothes. In the third year, you read your thoughts from the first and second years and aim for even greater heights.Doesn't it feel like you'll get better at "summer fashion"👀?!

Of course, it seems easy to understand if you paste photos of what you were wearing or draw pictures,"Maybe this outfit would be cute too!" and it's also good to write down advice for yourself. (I wrote this as a test, so it's a future date) I wrote a sample to show how it might be good to write it like this↓

My white blouse is worn out, so I'm entrusting my thoughts to my future self next year.
I want sleeves. I'm entrusting a top I'll like even more to the future.
I'm entrusting my hope that I'll find some nice boots to the future.
I'm similarly entrusting a thin cardigan to the future. (Entrusting too much)

Also, I added it to my [Annual Plan] so I don't miss the sale period◎

It might be good to write your plans with an erasable pen like a Frixion🖋
(Though be careful, as they can sometimes disappear with heat...!!)

You might find your own "core" over three years

Also, I recommend collecting words you like or keywords that resonated with you over the course of three years."Who I want to be, what I like, what suits me" It's also good to jot down words that you feel this way about. If you take three years, what you feel is "like you" will likely become much clearer.

I recommend writing down who you want to be, what you like, and what suits you over three years🎉

👗Things to write in your 3-year diary

① Clothes you wore today (drawings or notes)
② Thoughts on the clothes you wore (e.g., happy because it was a favorite outfit, or it was cold)
③ Message to your future self (e.g., I want a new coat next year)

Who you want to be, what you like, what suits you
People you admire (find appealing) and the reasons why, etc.
・Music, movies, and books you've read (and your thoughts if possible)
・Favorite words, words that made your heart flutter, etc.

And so on! If you write steadily for three years, the core of your way of thinking will likely come into view.

☕️Making a holiday schedule by the day before is also good

Also, to digress a little, rather than talking about three years from now,"I don't even know what I'm doing tomorrow..." for those people, I thought it would be good to write down a "holiday schedule memo" by the day before.

On your day off,"Should I go shopping tomorrow?" have you ever had a day where you thought that, but when you woke up the next day, you ended up reading web comics and lazing around...? (That's me🙋‍♀️)

Recently,"Deciding on a rough schedule for tomorrow before going to sleep" I tried this, and I was able to spend my time efficiently from waking up to going out and coming home. I suggest having a self-reflection session about fashion at Starbucks, but unless you "incorporate the plan to go to Starbucks into your schedule" you'll end the day without even going to Starbucks! I realized... the day before is the key...🔑 (Recommended for extremely lazy people like me✨) If you decide, "Tomorrow is the day I'll think seriously about clothes, a 'Fashion Day'!", please try making a light schedule from the day before."Fashion Day" to make it happen.

I made a plan in my memo and acted on it, and I was able to follow it exactly!

Plans and diaries are also great for relieving anxiety

Although I have a fairly optimistic personality, since becoming a freelancer in my mid-30s, I sometimes vaguely feel that "the future is scary." (And I'm sure there isn't anyone, regardless of age or profession, who doesn't feel some anxiety.)

However, what I fear most right now might be "getting older without doing anything, without changing anything, and without fulfilling the ambitions and hopes I once held." I have realized that if you want to create something, a lifetime is far too short. Since I started keeping a "3-year diary," this anxiety has eased significantly.

Every day, when I have a plan like "I'll do this next year," I feel full of a sense of moving forward and the hope that I can make next year even better.

Of course, please try writing about fashion in the notebook or diary you have on hand right now, too ☺️📖✨
