A Part-time Manager's Perspective: The lesson 'Don't do it with two people' is still useful today.
This is a perspective I encountered when I was a student at my part-time job,
which my manager often spoke about,
and it is a perspective that still remains in my heart today.
I believe this way of thinking
has served as a guide for me many times
while working as a professional.
That is
"Don't do the same job with two people."
it is.
Since it is work done by students,
things that would finish quickly if done by one person
end up with people chatting away when done by two,
and despite being done by two people,
it takes longer than the time it would take for one person.
Also, when you do it while chatting,
the work becomes neglected.
And, the location of responsibility
becomes ambiguous.
"If you're just going to help,
do something else by yourself,
find something else you can do,
even if you don't help directly,
you can help indirectly."
A 'helping out' mindset
does not take responsibility for the work.
And, both people
will never be able to grow
no matter how much time passes.
I think it was very good that I was able to have
this perspective when I was a student.
Even after becoming a professional,
I didn't just wait for my seniors for everything,
but quickly did what I could by myself.
I think that stance was good.
That said, thanks to that perspective,
ever since I joined the company,
watching new colleagues and bosses who were always doing sales calls together,
I thought, 'You're not generating double the sales, so just do it alone.'
I thought that, and
even now,
I think, 'Bosses, don't do your subordinates' work.'
Subordinates, don't keep running away from responsibility.
Don't go on sales calls with your boss until a customer says 'Bring out your superior.' It's pathetic.
How long are you going to keep doing it with two people! How long are both the boss and the subordinate going to have a 'helping out' mindset!!
is what I end up grumbling about.
"Don't do the same job with two people."
When it comes to working,
this is my fundamental philosophy.
Above all, let's become cool adults.
