So 'eccentric' was a positive word!
A friend felt down, saying, "People call me an eccentric."
I comforted them, saying, "What? You're not an eccentric at all, you're completely normal!"
"ATF, you're an eccentric too, so you probably don't get it. We really are eccentrics after all."
<Huh? I have never once thought of myself as an eccentric>
You're a bit unusual, or sometimes I feel like I'm out of sync with those around me.
There's a part of me that has resigned myself to not caring what others think, but I still feel a little down when I'm called an "eccentric."
When I was in America or working in the media, I rarely felt that I was unusual. I felt like I was completely blended in with my surroundings.
In the first place, the eccentrics I imagine are eccentric people, strange people, dangerous people, which has a quite negative connotation.
So, my friend went out of their way to search for the word 'eccentric' online and explained it to me.
What an eccentric is: A person whose behavior or personality differs from that of ordinary people. A nonconformist.
Characteristics of unusual people:
(1) They don't care what others think (2) They have unusual hobbies (3) They like being alone (4) They live freely (5) They are confident (6) They state their opinions clearly (7) They are very particular (8) They value their own unique worldview
(1) depends on the situation, so I'll leave that aside, but I fit five items from (4) to (8). (It's a fine line)
However, when I took a few simple eccentric diagnostic tests, I was judged to be over 90% eccentric in all of them. Looking at it comprehensively, perhaps I really am an eccentric, lol.
Well, being unusual ≒ being different from others might be perfect for today's era where diversity is being called for.
No, rather, eccentrics might be the innovators who drive a new era!
I'll interpret it conveniently and tell myself that "being an eccentric" isn't so bad.
