[Kanda] To the sacred site of THE ALFEE's "whole onion"! The exquisite onion curry at "Komi'z"

The header image is the signature menu item of the Kanda curry specialty shop "Komi'z", the whole onion curry using Awaji Island onions.

The onion, cooked to a perfect sweetness just before it turns mushy, is irresistible! The curry sauce has a deep flavor that makes you think, "Is it sweet?" at the first bite, but then a spicy kick gradually follows. As a spicy food lover, I think I'll try customizing it to be a bit spicier next time.

This shop, which frequently appears in the media, is actually a sacred site that was featured in THE ALFEE's event DVD pamphlet this summer. The three members visited for a location shoot and ate this onion curry.

As for why it was this curry... it started with a past pamphlet project. It stems from a legendary accident where Takamizawa-san tried to cook an onion "whole" without cutting it while making katsudon (if you're curious, please search for "ALFEE onion" on YouTube!).

I visited the day after the summer event was held. The shop staff were worried on Instagram, wondering, "Will there be a line?" and "Will 100 onions be enough?", and just as they predicted, there was a huge line of fans before the shop even opened (laughs).

The rich, savory sauce, simmered slowly, was undeniably delicious, and it's also great that this onion curry is at the reasonable price of 800 yen. Also, the paper hand towel provided was ice-cold, which I felt was the best hospitality for this season.

There are plenty of other menu items such as katsu curry, fried eggplant, and grilled meat stamina curry, and the toppings are also extensive. I definitely want to visit again and try various flavors.
