The story of how a conservative geek changed jobs to a Web3 startup
Hello!
I'm mihara, and I work in labor affairs at a company called Gaudiy.
It might be hard to imagine what exactly "labor affairs" entails just by the name, but I handle things like payroll, social insurance procedures, and health and safety management.
In this entry about joining the company, I would like to write about why I, someone who is the type to look before they leap, ended up joining the Web3 startup Gaudiy.I hope you can see this as one example of the kind of person who works at Gaudiy.
First, a self-introduction
This is the kind of person I am
・Born in Hiroshima. While attending a local university, I realized that "being in Tokyo would make my geek activities more productive," so I moved to Tokyo when I started working.
・I love all kinds of entertainment. My origin story as a geek comes from the special effects shows and a certain horror-comedy manga I encountered in my childhood.
・I've been a worrier since I was old enough to know better, and I'm the type who chooses the safe path rather than taking risks.
・On the other hand, I have a strong sense of curiosity about the things I love and am quick to take action.
Things I like
Live performances / Comedy / Movies (especially horror) / Theater / Manga / Special effects, etc.
What kind of work have I done so far?
I worked as a systems engineer at the company I joined as a new graduate, experienced general office work at my second company, and then moved to an HR Tech venture as a general affairs staff member for my third job. After that, I transferred to the HR department, where I realized how interesting labor affairs were, and joined Gaudiy in October 2024 to work in labor affairs.
Why did I decide to change jobs?
Having experienced various companies and job types, I spent about six years at my third company.
I was blessed with good people and good work, and I didn't have any real complaints about the company, but there was a timing where I felt I had "come full circle" in terms of my years of service and the company's situation. I wasn't planning on actively job hunting, but I registered on a job site just in case...
Meeting Gaudiy
Although I had registered on a job site, it wasn't easy to come across a company I would want to join even if it meant quitting my current job. Just as I was starting to think it wasn't the right time to change jobs, I received a scout email.
![An image containing the title of the scout email. "[Full Flex/Remote Available] Would you like to lead the labor affairs area at a startup aiming for business growth and overseas expansion in the Web3 x Entertainment field?"](/https://assets.st-note.com/img/1738942669-kl41U2E3mTRNX5zgfJFLwYBM.jpg?width=1200)
Usually, I would just read the content roughly and be done with it, but the word "entertainment" in the email title caught my eye.
As an entertainment-loving geek, I was thrilled, thinking I might have finally met the company of my destiny! I read through the text, but my honest impression after finishing it was, "Web3? Blockchain? I feel like this is a suspicious company." I wasn't familiar with the concept of Web3 or blockchain technology personally. Also, because I couldn't specifically imagine working at a company that does such business, I felt that this company wasn't meant for me, and I closed the email at that time.
However, after that, a feeling started to well up: "What if I regret not replying to this?"
To use an analogy, it was similar to when I encounter a work that hits me too hard.
When I encounter a work that is too shocking, I can't process it in my brain at that moment, and I just have the impression that "I feel like I saw something amazing." But as time passes, my thoughts slowly organize, and that's when I realize what a wonderful work it was. It was exactly that feeling.
So, I decided to read the note by the CEO, Mr. Ishikawa, to learn more about what kind of company it was.
Among them, this is the article that impressed me the most.
I don't think I understood most of what was written here just by reading it once. However, I intuitively felt, I can really support this company...!I thought.
First, through this note, I understood that the reason I didn't have a very positive impression of the Web3 service business was because I felt that "suspicious = a profit-first company" due to its high speculative nature.
At the same time, as the title of this note suggests, I recognized that Gaudiy does not consider a state of excessive speculation to be correct, and I felt favorably toward that.
Also, as a geek myself, I strongly empathized with the grand vision of creating an economic design where fans can purely enjoy themselves (the creation of a "Fan Nation"), which was set as the goal for solving such issues.
This is because I have heard, seen, and experienced the difficulty of continuing to support the things you love with 100% selfless love.
That is precisely why I couldn't help but feel excited imagining the future where this "Fan Nation" is realized.
I struggled with whether I should take the challenge
That said, I was very worried about whether I should really change jobs.
I have been a huge worrier since I was a child. I am a conservative person who prefers safe and certain methods over taking risks, and I am also sensitive to changes in my environment.
One of the reasons I find HR work interesting is that I can think based on clear rules like laws and work regulations—meaning I can proceed with my work in a state where the means to protect are clear.
Therefore, I had significant anxiety about whether I would be able to fit into a company with such a high level of uncertainty and in a phase like Gaudiy's.
However, I realized that my personality, which at first glance seems difficult to fit into a startup company, being "conservative," could conversely have the following strengthsas well.
Sensitive to environmental changes → Because I am sensitive, I strive to adapt to new environments as quickly as possible
Prefer safe and certain methods → Because I like to turn unorganized things into workflows, I don't mind pushing forward with tasks that can be systematized or made more efficient
Also, since I was aware that I am the type of person whose curiosity and passion increase when things I love are involved, I thought that if I were in an environment where I could be involved in the entertainment I love, I might forget such anxieties and be able to face my work with all my heart.
Above all, I felt that if I missed this chance to be involved in something I love at work, it might never come again. Even if I stayed in my familiar current job, I would definitely regret not choosing Gaudiy in a few years! That thought was the final deciding factor.
After joining Gaudiy
What I think every day is"If I hadn't chosen Gaudiy, I would have regretted it after all."that is.
The reason I think so as an otaku is because I felt"an environment where you can say you like what you like"is just there, and it isso comfortableto be in.
And although it is simple, just having the titles of works I love flying around the office is surprisingly motivating.
Also, the reason I think so as an HR professional is because I was able to realize not only my own HR skills but alsothe potential for growth in the work of "HR" itselfthrough this.
At Gaudiy, there are many situations where I am required to think and act on what "Gaudiy-like HR" or "HR required by the current Gaudiy" is.
Sometimes I even handle things that might make people wonder, "Is that HR work?"
However, the environment where I can pursue the work of "HR" without being bound by general forms in this way is very stimulating, and I feel that I would not have been able to experience this at other companies.
Of course, there were times when I was confused by the speed and way of working when I first joined, but thanks to the support of the unique and kind members of Gaudiy, I am able to work happily today!
Therefore, I think I can proudly say the following two points.
Precisely because of my conservative personality, there are strengths that fit into a chaotic environment!
Work where you can be involved in what you love is just fun!!
Finally
Gaudiy continues to update every day to realize a fan nation.
However, it is a phase where various issues arise with the expansion of business and organizational scale, and it is still in a chaotic environment.
Nevertheless, for those who have read this far and have become even slightly interested in the company Gaudiy, or who have imagined a future where a "fan nation" is realized,I think Gaudiy is an incredibly exciting companyto be at.
Whether you are an otaku, the type who looks before they leap, or neither,"Gaudiy might be good"if you think that, please let us talk casually! (Talk about entertainment works is also very welcome!)
