Add learning and fun to crime prevention patrols with "+ Kamishibai"!
We, the NPO Sukiccha Kitakyushu, are engaged in activities to support various local areas with the theme of community development.
While we receive many requests for "disaster prevention community development," "crime prevention community development" is also one of our activity themes!
For the people living in that town, becoming a safe and secure town without incidents, accidents, or crimes is a major shared wish.
In Kitakyushu City, in every school district, local residents take the lead in conducting "crime prevention patrols."
Snatching, burglary, kidnapping, delinquency prevention, sex crimes...
To protect their own town, the local residents are working very hard.
"Patrolling in the town" is quite a steady, persistent activity.
This activity is a proposal to add just a little something to those efforts!
The patrol team members gather at the civic center around the scheduled time at night.
After a quick greeting, they say, "Well, shall we go today?" and head out on patrol.
Wait a minute!
Please give us five minutes of your time!!
"We have created a Kamishibai (picture-story show) about crime prevention, so please listen for a moment."

We had everyone watch the stories from two prototype Kamishibai.
One is about the "Broken Windows Theory."
It is a story that where things are already messy, the next crime is more likely to occur.
The other is about "The eyes of the community that create safety."
It is a story about creating safety by greeting local residents and so on.
We are currently in the process of creating 24 themes like this!!!
I read the picture-story show in a calm, steady voice.
Everyone listened intently...
I wondered what kind of reaction everyone would have.
Feeling a bit nervous, I said,
"The end, the end."
As I turned the picture-story show face down and looked up, there was a huge round of applause!!!
Phew... (laughs)
After that, while on patrol, I went around and asked everyone for their individual thoughts.
"That was wonderful!!"
"How interesting!!!"
"The pictures made it easy to understand!"
I was so happy to receive such praise from everyone.
There was even a chemical reaction greater than I had imagined.
"I'd like you to cover this topic too."
"Something like this happened before."
"I think this is important."
And so on—things that don't usually come up in conversation were brought up one after another!
Stimulated by the picture-story show, all sorts of conversations emerged.
That's right! This was the goal!!
I believe it is important for the younger generation, like us, to take on roles like reading these picture-story shows and to take ownership of these responsibilities.
Once all 24 themes are complete, I plan to upload them as data as well.
I want to make this a tool that anyone across the country can print out and use.
While patrol teams are currently managing to hold on thanks to their sense of duty,
just adding a quick 3-5 minute paper theater performance can make a difference.
Beyond just learning know-how related to crime prevention,
I would be happy if this leads to starting conversations
and encourages the younger generation to participate in the community.
I am creating this with the help of a grant.
The deadline is approaching.
Time for a final sprint to get it finished!!!
Thank you for reading again today.
I'll post a few related articles here.
