Am I projecting my life onto Tetris!?
It's simple, but fun!!
I love Tetris!!
When I was a kid, I played Tetris until the corners were rounded! (That's a lie)
Back then, Tamagotchi and things like that were popular, and I played a lot of a palm-sized Tetris game called 'Tetrin'.
I remember playing it until the buttons wore out. (This part is true (lol))
Yesterday, I joined in on the video games my kids were playing. I played Tetris while they played Puyo Puyo, which was a match-up I never could have imagined back in my own childhood (lol).
Puyo Puyo has things like chains, and the attack power against your opponent when you clear them is insane, so it didn't look like a fair fight at all, haha,
but I just kept steadily clearing my Tetris lines and managed to bring it to a draw.
It had been a while, but Tetris was fun—it got pretty heated.
I just love it so much!!
I think I'm actually quite good at it (lol), so I'd love to have a discussion about Tetris sometime!! (lol)
I've played a lot of Tetris.
I've been projecting my life onto Tetris.
I've kind of felt that way since I was a kid, butI confirmed it again yesterday. Yeah, that's exactly it!! (lol)
I'd like to try outputting my thoughts on this.
I've written this so that both people who like Tetris and those who don't can understand.
You might think it's a silly article, but I've written it properly, so please take a look (lol).
1. Only clearing lines with the long bar (lol)
This is my biggest obsession when playing Tetris.
My personal rule is that I only clear lines with thelong bar piece, where four blocks are in a straight line(lol).
My ideal is to clear four lines at a time with the long bar, and clearing one or two lines is out of the question! (lol)
That was my obsession.
To do that, I have to wait for the long bar.
It's no good if the long bar comes when I haven't stacked four lines neatly, and it's no good if there are holes somewhere.
It all comes down to how beautifully prepared I am
when the long-awaited long bar finally arrives!!
This is the first step in talking about Tetris.
2. Being particular about where you stack
There are various schools of thought (though I don't really know them),
but I leave one column open on the edge for the long bar.
I stack everything else neatly in the other columns.
In other words, it means creating a space where you can receive the opportunities that come your way. It means stacking things up beautifully in your own way in the remaining space.
What kind of blocks fall is up to luck.
However, believing that they will surely come someday, I prepare as much as I can. When a long bar (an opportunity) arrives, everything you have built up until then truly pays off.
3. Keep it beautiful and tidy
Perhaps the reason I like tidying up is because I've been influenced by Tetris (laughs).
If things are distorted and full of holes, blocks that don't disappear will just keep piling up.
Anyway, keep it beautiful!
Align the shapes! Keep stacking them up.
If bad luck continues or you make a mistake and create a hole, it's not beautiful, so start recovering immediately.
Guide the tasks that fall one after another to their optimal places and tidy them up.
Yes, it overlaps with work and life.
4. To do that, you must be prepared!
To keep things beautiful and tidy, you must be prepared.
This is probably where the line is drawn between a Tetris beginner and an expert! (Don't sound so arrogant)
You must be prepared to accept whatever blocks fall.
The square ones, the distorted Z-shaped ones, the L-shaped ones—there are times when they don't fit well, right?
Usually, these guys cause trouble, create distorted shapes, and trigger a negative chain reaction.
You must always be prepared to accept these bad factors.
Then, even if these things that are currently unnecessary fall, you can say, "Yes, yes, I've already made a place for you here," and let them through.
This is nothing less than the "ability to prepare" to prevent bad flows.
It's not just about preparing space (time and physical strength), but also
"crisis management ability" to always think ahead, and
"consideration" for various types of things.
And I think it is the "imagination" to visualize the shape that will result after you have handled them.
Yes, it is life itself.
5. The imagination after clearing a line
Next, the path to becoming an advanced player (don't act so high and mighty) is
imagining what the shape will look like when you clear that line.
It is easy to imagine the shape as it piles up.
But it is not just that; it is important to imagine what the shape will become when the blocks align horizontally and that line disappears as well.
When compared to life,
after something goes well or you achieve something,
that is not the goal; it is about how it connects to what comes next, and how it continues to the next step.
I think it is that kind of imagination.
We tend to get caught up in the goals and objectives right in front of us, but life goes on.
I think even a single mountain peak is just a path to the next one.
It is good if you can imagine, even a little, what things will look like after achieving even a small goal.
6. Even when bad luck continues
That said, if you keep playing for a long time, eventually bad luck will continue.
I assume there is a random function built in that makes blocks fall one after another (though maybe recent versions use AI analysis?),
but there are times when bad luck continues so much that I think, "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you!"
Long bars appearing in succession just when I need them,
Z-shaped pieces appearing in succession,
or good pieces not coming when I am in a tough spot...
It can't be helped,
there are times like that, you just have to
face the bad luck.
The flip side of bad luck is good luck.
I tend to forget it immediately, but there are times when I am lucky.
There are many times when I am saved by good fortune.
When I have bad luck, I remember the times when I had good luck.
Bad luck and good luck circulate, and both will surely come around.
How to calm your heart and face things during such bad luck,
and also, the ability to accept good luck as good luck—I feel like I have learned those things.
7. Stay calm even in a pinch! You can definitely overcome it!
Due to operational errors and a string of bad luck, things start piling up.
I panic, thinking, 'This is the end!'
The more I panic, the more mistakes I make.
The more I panic, the more mistakes I make.
But that's where my seasoned skills come in.
I've overcome pinches like this many times before.
As mentioned earlier, even in these situations, I don't neglect to account for the ongoing bad luck!!
However, unlike when I have breathing room, I have to work quickly.
I manage to pull through somehow, clearing the blocks, and after all that hard work, a peaceful life awaits.
It's okay, you can definitely find a way out.
Perhaps that is also a skill born from experience.
Every difficult situation you overcome should become an asset.
Even if similar hardships occur, you should be able to believe in yourself and overcome them.
Let's do our best while imagining the peaceful scenery that awaits after we overcome them.
8. But, one day we will die
Finally, this topic.
When you become a Tetris maniac like me and start to gain confidence,
you start to think, 'Am I the strongest?'
'Will I live forever?'
You even start to feel that way.
But,
we will definitely die someday.
When I was a child, I would challenge myself, saying, 'I definitely won't die today' or 'I'll keep playing forever,' buteventually, I would always get a game over.
Sometimes mistakes pile up, sometimes unavoidable bad luck strikes,
and in some cases, I've even had the experience of running out of energy and falling asleep (lol).
There is a beginning, and there is an end.
Even if things are going smoothly, there is an end someday.
Sometimes life is short, and sometimes you are lucky enough to live a long time.
In a way, I think that fleeting nature is something that overlaps between Tetris and life.
3,350 characters!!
I really went on a passionate rant there (lol).
You might have thought this was just a silly gamer article, but the content was actually decent, wasn't it!? (lol)
I feel like a child 'only playing games' actually becomes a bit of a life asset (lol).
My mom scolded me often, but I was properly learning about life like this (an excuse (lol)).
Thank you for sticking with me until the end.
Thank you for watching today as well.
