Soma High School students find inspiration for their future paths through university and research facility tours!
On Thursday, June 5th, 153 first-year students from Fukushima Prefectural Soma High School visited universities and research facilities. This was conducted as part of the "Fukushima Innovation Human Resource Development Project," with the goal of providing students with an opportunity to think about their future career paths while also exposing them to research in the fields of regional environment, renewable energy, and agriculture.
At one of the destinations, the Nihon University College of Engineering, two classes visited in the morning and two in the afternoon. After receiving an introduction to each department in a lecture hall, the students moved to the classrooms of their preferred departments to observe the facilities and research content. Everything was new to them, and the students were full of curiosity. It was impressive to see them listening intently to the students' explanations.

They had lunch at the school cafeteria. By buying meal tickets and lining up for service, they got to experience university life.
Many students commented, "The cafeteria food was delicious!" making it a fun time for everyone.

Each class visited research facilities including the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST (FREA), Commutan Fukushima, and the Fukushima Agricultural Technology Centre. At each facility, they participated in hands-on learning and attended lectures by researchers, providing a valuable opportunity to encounter cutting-edge research.

The students were able to learn how fields like environment, energy, and agriculture relate to their own lives and futures, broadening their perspectives.
Through this tour, the students gained hints for thinking about their future paths and were able to encounter research and technology that will support the future of the region.
We would like to express our gratitude to everyone at the Nihon University College of Engineering and the various research facilities for their cooperation.
