Born in Isahaya City, Nagasaki Prefecture, in 2002. Interested in poverty both in Japan and abroad since childhood, she has been active through establishing student organizations and reporting on developing countries. During her second year of high school, she studied abroad in India for one year, where she organized a fashion show featuring children from slums as models. After returning to Japan, she wrote a note article titled "In a Corner of This Fractured World" out of a sense of crisis regarding domestic divisions, which was viewed approximately 1 million times. She has been attending Wellesley College in the United States since 2021. While taking a leave of absence to work at a long-established public bathhouse, she is studying social security from various perspectives.

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. Graduated from the School of Humanities and Culture at Waseda University. She won the Kaien Newcomer Literature Prize for "Kofuku na Yugi" in 1990, the Noma Literary Newcomer Prize for "Madoromu Yoru no UFO" in 1996, the Fujin Koron Literary Prize for "Kuchu Teien" in 2003, the Naoki Prize for "Taigan no Kanojo" in 2005, the Kawabata Yasunari Literature Prize for "Rock Haha" in 2006, the Chuo Koron Literary Prize for "Yodome no Semi" in 2007, the Ito Sei Literary Prize for "Tree House" in 2011, the Shibata Renzaburo Award for "Kami no Tsuki" and the Izumi Kyoka Prize for Literature for "Kanata no Ko" in 2012, and the Kawai Hayao Story Prize for "Watashi no Naka no Kanojo" in 2014. In 2021, she received the Yomiuri Literary Prize for her translation of "The Tale of Genji (Volumes 1-3)," a project that took five years to complete.

Former Editor-in-Chief of "Bungeishunju." Born in Tokyo in 1964. After graduating from the Department of Political Science at Waseda University's School of Political Science and Economics, he joined Bungeishunju in 1989. After working in the editorial departments of "Sports Graphic Number," "Shukan Bunshun," and the monthly "Bungeishunju," he became the Director of the First Non-Fiction Department in 2011 and Editor-in-Chief of "Shukan Bunshun" in April 2012. Since 2018, he has been engaged in building new business models as the Editorial Director of Shukan Bunshun. He has been an Executive Officer since August 2020. He became Editor-in-Chief of "Bungeishunju" (concurrently serving as Executive Officer) in July 2021. Since June 2023, he has served as Director and General Manager of Bungeishunju.

Thanks to everyone, this contest, which began to commemorate the 100th anniversary of "Bungeishunju," has entered its third year. The number of entries increases every year, and I am very happy that this has become an opportunity for many people to think about "what we can do for the future."

In these turbulent times, what can we do to make this planet and this society better? I want you to think about what you can do in your daily life, rather than anything special. I believe that each person's realization is the first step toward creating a brighter future.
