We are starting an experiment to use 'ruby' in note articles!

Because we want you to enjoy creating more freely on note, we have made the 'ruby (furigana) feature' experimentally available in the note editor!

* Since this is still an experimental feature, it is initially available to creators who are note premium members.

To use it, simply enter a '' (vertical bar) at the start of the text you want to add ruby to, and ' ' (double angle brackets) at the end, then enter the ruby inside the '《 》' (double angle brackets)!

By adding ruby, articles that were previously difficult to read due to complex kanji become accessible, allowing more people to enjoy your note.

Depending on how you use it, ruby can expand the range of your creative expression.

As the first step for the ruby feature, we had note CXO Mr. Fukatsu write an article using ruby, and it received a great deal of response on social media and in note comments!

I had been thinking that having ruby would be helpful when writing historical articles. It seems like reading and writing novels on note will become even more enjoyable!

I want people who are not good at kanji and children to read my work. However, there is a dilemma where using only hiragana fails to convey subtle nuances, so please, please add a ruby feature!

Based on comments and requests, we reviewed it again with the improvement team, and decided to proceed with this improvement in earnest once we judged that implementation could move forward.

As in Mr. Fukatsu's article,

・“解禁 (kaikin)” → “Unlock”
・“理由 (riyu)” → “Adult circumstances”

You can make it read as these, or express it in any way you like. We hope you will unleash your creativity!

Early release for note premium members

This ruby feature is experimental, and since various modifications would be required if we were to change it once implemented, we plan to release it in stages while monitoring feedback and reactions.

The only symbols needed to add ruby are '|' and '《》'

Enter a '' (vertical bar) at the start of the text you want to add ruby to, and ' ' (double angle brackets) at the end, then enter the ruby inside the '《 》' (double angle brackets).

Whether you write on a browser (Web, smartphone) or an app (iOS, Android), it will become ruby as long as the notation is used.

Because it is a notation compatible with existing novel sites such as Aozora Bunko, Shousetsuka ni Narou, and Kakuyomu, you will be able to paste manuscripts written on other sites as they are!

※ The | (vertical bar) can be used as either a full-width or half-width character. ※ We plan to support shortcuts in the new editor (Ctrl + shift + | (vertical bar)).

The ruby feature was realized by quickly experimenting with an idea that came up internally and moving forward based on the feedback from creators on Fukatsu's article. It's a feature that allows for various expressions, so I would be happy if you could try it out! We are considering other convenient and fun creator-first feature expansions for the editor, so please look forward to them.
