You can now add ruby (furigana) to note articles!
You can now add ruby (furigana) to note!
There are many ways to use it, such as in articles with difficult kanji or place names, articles for children, or novels. It expands the range of your expression!
To use it, enter a "" (vertical bar) at the start of the text you want to add ruby to, and "" (double angle brackets) at the end, then enter the ruby inside the "《 》".

Note: You cannot use bold text inside ruby notation. If you want to make it bold, please bold the entire string including the ruby notation as shown below.

This feature was previously released early to note premium members so that we could develop it based on your feedback. With this improvement, it is now available to everyone!
Expressing yourself on note with ruby
During the experimental release, many notes with ruby were already being posted. There were many creative ways to use ruby. Here are a few examples for your reference!
■ The poster for the 1st National Census is interesting
It seems that the poster for the national census 100 years ago had ruby on every word, perhaps out of consideration for people who could not read kanji. It is interesting that the way the readings are assigned, such as for "survey items," is completely different from today. It was written by making maximum use of the ruby feature!
■ Poem: Takigi Noh (with ruby)
This is a free verse poem that begins with "What lies beyond the blowing wind," and has a somewhat alluring expression. The ruby feature was used to direct how the words are read, such as in "bleeding through the blood" and "crimson."
■ Experiment with ruby (furigana) support on note
This is an article written by note CXO Fukatsu as the first experiment of the ruby feature. It is packed with "ruby tricks" such as "adult circumstances" and "freedom." It also covers the behind-the-scenes story of the development, such as "Why wasn't there ruby until now?", so please take a look if you are interested.
Improving based on your feedback
Thank you to everyone who tried it out during the early release for premium members! During the early release, we received a lot of feedback on note and social media.

noteのルビ機能。公開済みの「過去記事」に新たにルビタグをつけて更新しても、ルビが反映されない現象。

→ We have improved it so that the ruby notation is newly reflected even when you edit articles from before the release of the ruby function!
[Request②] I want you to support special characters as well
さっそく試してみたけど、ピンインつきアルファベッドは特殊文字扱いなのかまだ非対応。中国語勢には残念でしが、noteさんよろしければ対応を!

→ We have improved it so that ruby can be added to some special characters!

[Request③] The notation symbols appear in emails and OGP, making it hard to read
→ We are currently working on it so that the ruby part is omitted in emails and OGP (the images displayed on Twitter, etc.)!
