[2nd Grade Summer Vacation] There's no way I could pull off a 'praise-everything' strategy; the book report was finally completed after I kept cracking jokes (Celebration)
Hello. It's Imakoko here.
A week of August has already flown by, hasn't it (blank stare).
And from here on out, it goes by strangely fast!!
Feeling anxious that my son's (2nd grade) homework wasn't finished, I decided to visualize the schedule and implement a 'praise-everything' strategy.
Details are here.
The 'kanji practice' and 'book report' that my son was bad at and kept putting off. My goal is to somehow get these finished before the Obon holiday. So that I don't have to show off the version of myself that turns into a comedy-style heckling machine in front of my husband...
Besides, for some reason, I have this obsessive idea that 'I have to get this done by Obon!!' It's not just homework; it's weeding the garden, cleaning up, and so on...
That's right, my mental state couldn't keep up with the 'praise-everything' strategy. It's inevitable that I'd get angry; otherwise, I'd break down. It's impossible!!
Before I knew it, I was heckling him relentlessly like a stand-up comedian, using rough language. But my son seemed to find it hilarious and was laughing his head off.
Me'"Kotoba Robo" should be in katakana!! Use katakana for everything!!'
Son: "Hya-hahahaha"
Me'Don't crush the loops (in the hiragana)!! Leave a gap!!'
Son: "Hya-hahahaha!!"
Me'If you make a mistake, erase it!! Don't write over it!!'
Son: "Gyahahahaha!!"
He was laughing so hard that I couldn't help but laugh along with him.
At times like this, I realize once again, 'I really am a Kansai person.' Just like a typical Kansai middle-aged lady.
For the book report, I read the assigned book my son chose to him, listened to his thoughts following the book report guide, and then finished it up with him by using a summary generated by AI as a reference.
I wrote it out on the manuscript paper and read it aloud. Then my son copied it onto a new sheet of manuscript paper as his final draft.
The exchange I mentioned earlier was from that time (lol).
Somehow or other, we finished the book report in two days.
That's no surprise, since I was dangling a 'carrot' in front of my son.
I promised to take him to McDonald's for a 3 o'clock snack once he finished three pages of kanji practice and his book report.
My son's goal was the limited-time 'Cheese Bacon Potato Pie' and the 'McShake® Morinaga Ramune (S)'.
Thanks to his persistence, he finished it perfectly!
Well done, son!!
You can do it if you try!! My son!!!!
And me!! I did a great job too!!
Even while getting angry, I stuck with it to the end!!
Since we broke through the biggest hurdle of his summer vacation homework,
we went to McDonald's as promised for what I called a 'mini-celebration'.

My son's McShake® Morinaga Ramune was sold out, so he settled for chocolate, but he was very happy, saying it was delicious.
The Cheese Bacon Potato Pie was also delicious.
(My son gave me a bite)
Thank you, McDonald's!
Thank you, Cheese Bacon Potato Pie!!
With all that said, even though I got angry again this morning, I gave a round of applause to my son for finishing the remaining two pages of kanji practice properly.
All that's left is the tablet learning and four pages of picture diary!!
