Changes in children that only moms know
Even if no one else notices
"They held the spoon a little better today."
"Their walking is steadier than yesterday."
"They took a bite of the vegetable they hated until recently."
If you told someone else, they would probably just say,
"Oh, I see."
and that would be the end of it.
But for a mom, it's different.
Because you know just how big a step that small change really is.

1. There is growth that can only be seen because you are together every day
A child's growth isn't just about obvious milestones like
"walking for the first time"
or "talking for the first time."
In reality, it's a accumulation of much smaller changes.
Things they couldn't do until yesterday.
Things they weren't good at until last week.
The one who can spot those tiny changes
is the mom who is there every day.
That's why I know.
Just a little while ago,
they looked shaky and unsure even when standing alone.

2. A joy that no one else understands
It's a joy when a child grows.
But that joy
is surprisingly hard to share.
"Look, they were able to do this today!"
Even if you say that,
the magnitude of that change doesn't really get across.
Why? Because they don't know the child's yesterday.
They don't know last week.
Only the mom who watches every day
knows the size of that step.

3. It's easy to overlook in the midst of busy days
Child-rearing is busy.
Making meals,
cleaning up,
getting them dressed,
putting them to sleep.
There is so much to do every day.
So before you know it,
you end up focusing only on
"what they still can't do."
But in reality, that's not true.
When you look back,
there are far more things they have become able to do.
The child is growing properly.
Little by little, in ways we might not even notice.

4. Moms are witnesses to growth
I sometimes think,
moms are the people who see a child's growth from the closest distance.
The day they smiled for the first time.
The day they rolled over for the first time.
The day they called your name for the first time.
Being there for those moments
is truly special.
Of course, there are many difficult things too.
But
this time will surely only happen now.

5. Because you will forget someday
This might be a slightly sad thought.
Things you remember vividly now
might be forgotten in a few years.
What kind of face they made when they laughed.
What kind of funny mistakes they made when talking.
What kind of gestures were cute.
That's why I
want to keep today's little growth
in my heart.
