[Hebaeike Park] Cherry Blossoms at 50% Bloom and the Weeping Cherry Tree at Hebaeike Shrine — A Spring Walk in Nishi Ward, Nagoya
I took a walk through Hebaeike Park in Nishi Ward, Nagoya, in late March.
The cherry blossoms were at about 50% bloom. They weren't in full bloom yet, but with flowers opening here and there, I arrived at a lovely time where I could truly feel that spring had arrived.
Fountain Monument
The first thing that catches your eye when you enter the park is the fountain monument.

Three stone pillars with cherry blossom petal shapes cut out are lined up, making for quite a stylish design. There is greenery at the base and benches arranged all around, allowing you to sit down and take a breather. With rows of cherry trees just starting to bloom in the background, it really feels nice. You can also see the shrine building on the left, giving the impression that the park entrance is already packed with highlights.
Lawn Plaza
On the way to the South Garden, you will find the lawn plaza.

Rows of carp streamers were lined up between the cherry trees, and it was a truly wonderful sight. I love the combination of colorful carp streamers and white cherry blossoms; it feels so much like spring. There were a few people enjoying cherry blossom viewing with tents set up on the lawn, and it was quite lively.
South Garden Area
Walking further south, you reach the South Garden area.

There is a plaza with playground equipment where several children were playing happily. A game was being held at the baseball field on the left, and I could hear their lively voices. It had a different atmosphere from the northern area with many cherry trees, feeling more like a place for the daily lives of the local residents.
Hebaeike Shrine
Hebaeike Shrine stands on the shore of the pond.

A weeping cherry tree spreads its branches wide in front of the shrine, and it was the best view ever. The red banners lined up in a row combined with the cherry blossoms made for a very picturesque scene. This part was absolutely wonderful. Even though you are in a lively park, the moment you approach the shrine, the air seems to change instantly. It was quiet and calm, creating an atmosphere that naturally makes you want to slowly put your hands together in prayer.
Hebaeike (Pond)
Hebaeike, which gives the park its name, spreads out near Hebaeike Shrine.

There are carp and turtles in the pond, and you could easily lose track of time just watching them leisurely. I watched them while thinking that if I came during the peak bloom, the reflection on the water surface would be even more incredible.
Tengu-sha Shrine
Near Hebaeike Shrine, there is also a Tengu-sha shrine.

It is built as if it is hanging over the pond, and the shrine building with its white walls and black timber framing is quite magnificent. There is an offering box, so I made sure to pay my respects there as well. The location with the pond in the background creates a great atmosphere, and I felt it was worth coming here just for this spot alone.
Summary
Hebaeike Park is rich in greenery despite being an urban park, and with the shrine included, it made for a fulfilling walking course. I would love to come back during the cherry blossom season.
The cherry blossoms in 50% bloom, the fountain monument, the quiet Hebaeike Pond, and the serene atmosphere of Hebaeike Shrine... all of it combined made for a very pleasant spring walk.
I have also uploaded a video of the walk to YouTube. The fountain monument and the atmosphere of Hebaeike Shrine feel different when you see them in motion. Please feel free to take a look.
