Everything in the world belongs to me
Seeing the lucky bags lined up in every store,
I remembered a certain phrase.
I do not own expensive works of art.
If they are close by, I have to worry about them breaking or being stolen.
If someone else owns them, they take care of them, and I can see them whenever I want.
That is the gist of the phrase.
I recall it being a quote from Konosuke Matsushita.
I also remember him saying that the items in various stores are just being kept for him.
I felt it was both a philosophy for dealing with the desire for possession and a warning about the very concept of ownership.
Everything in the world is my property,
and it is everyone's property as well.
If I pay the price, it can return to my hands at any time.
If I just want to keep it, it is fine to leave it in the store.
I was surprised by such a set of values.
Faced with overflowing lucky bags and attractive New Year's sales,
I want to set aside the desire to own things for a moment,
and still,
I feel like I want to face items with the yardstick of whether they have value in my life,
these days.
But, I'm still debating whether to buy the medium-fatty tuna~
