For anxious moms and dads: 'My baby isn't rolling over yet...' - Tips for peace of mind
'My baby isn't rolling over yet...'
I truly understand the feeling of comparing your baby to others and feeling anxious.
But growth really happens at each child's own pace.
I've compiled some support methods you can try at home and ways to keep a calm mindset.
'My baby still isn't rolling over...'
Have you ever felt a little uneasy when that topic comes up with friends or on social media?
I felt the same way. Seeing other babies rolling around or already crawling makes you wonder, 'Are they falling behind?' and it makes you anxious.
However, my pediatrician told me, 'Every baby grows at their own pace, so try not to compare them too much,' which made me feel a bit relieved. Some babies are fast, some are slow, and that's all part of their personality. Averages are just guidelines.
🍼 Things we tried at home
A few times a day, we did short sessions of **tummy time**. We used toys and talked to the baby to make them feel like they 'want to move!'
We laid down a mat that wasn't too soft and increased the time they spent rolling around freely in a safe space.
And above all, don't force them to practice. This is important. Waiting until they are naturally motivated was easier for both me and the baby.
🔍 Things to keep an eye on
Neck control is significantly delayed
No signs of rolling over or army crawling even by 8-9 months
Strong asymmetry in limb movement
If you notice these things, it's a good idea to consult your pediatrician or discuss it at a check-up for peace of mind.
🌱 Mindset tips
'Not doing it yet' does not mean 'something is wrong.'
Babies are amazing because they can suddenly do things one day that they couldn't do the day before.
If you feel anxious from seeing growth reports on social media or from people around you, it's okay to take a little distance.
And talking to other moms and dads who share the same worries can strangely make your heart feel lighter.
Your baby's growth is moving forward, even if it's slow. Let's wait for the 'not yet' moments with excitement together.
