Following my eldest daughter's fracture, now my second daughter too
Honestly, I thought, "You're next?"
A little while ago, my eldest daughter fell from playground equipment at school and fractured her left elbow, and she is still going to the hospital for it.
We had gotten used to the hospital, and I thought things were finally settling down.
Then, one day.
My second daughter came home from nursery school and said, "My foot hurts."
When I asked her about it, she said a friend had stepped on her foot.
At first, honestly, I just thought, "Maybe it's a bruise?"
She was able to walk, and it only looked a little swollen.
But she was still in pain the next day.
I felt a bit uneasy, so I took her to the hospital.
Then the doctor said, "Her ring toe is fractured."
What?
A fracture?
No way?
Just from being stepped on?
It's not that swollen, and she can walk, right?
My mind went blank for a moment.
And the first thing I thought was, "What about sports day?"
It's her last sports day as a senior in nursery school.
There's a relay race.
There's a footrace.
There's group gymnastics.
It's an event she was looking forward to.
When they said it would take two months to fully heal, I was really depressed.
I might have been more shocked than she was.
But she herself is surprisingly positive.
Even while saying it hurts, she's laughing as usual, and she's even fighting with her sister (lol).
It makes me realize that children are stronger.
This month, following my eldest daughter's fracture, now my second daughter has one too.
Who's next? My third daughter?
Is it because I'm in an unlucky year?
Is something going on?
I'm even thinking things like that...
But in the end, all I can do is take things one step at a time.
Take her to the hospital, do what I can to ease her pain, and wait for her to recover.
What parents can do might be surprisingly simple.
I hope the day comes soon when she can run around energetically again.
And, if possible, I hope she can participate in sports day, even a little bit.
That is all I am wishing for right now.
