8-Minute Walk from Kamakura Station, Vacancy Available by Tsukiko Ochi
Synopsis
After her father, who raised her as a single parent, passed away, Kara Onai took over the cafe he had been running, 'Ouchi Cafe.' Her friend, Mikiko Hayashi, then moves in after getting a divorce. At Mikiko's suggestion, they decide to rent out the empty rooms in Kara's house as a share house, but the residents who gather there each come with their own circumstances.
Impressions containing spoilers from here on
The people who gathered after the recruitment for a share house with meals included were Satoko Fujimura, who took early retirement; Ayumi Michinaga, a beauty who seems to have some sort of secret; and Chieko Kato, who lost her place to live after her son's business failed. This is the story of how these five residents, including Kara and Mikiko, came to gather here.
First of all, delicious-looking coffee and various foods appear to match the timing and the time spent eating together, so you can enjoy the aroma while reading the story. Also, every Saturday is curry day, and various curries appear here as well. From that perspective, I wonder if it could be called a culinary novel...
Well, the residents are people with various circumstances, such as someone abandoned by their mother, someone who started a new life after leaving a morally harassing husband, and someone who was given up for adoption as a child and carries that trauma; there are many people with a rich variety of circumstances.
In the midst of this, Kara, the landlord, acts as a healing presence, while Mikiko acts as a whirlwind, both playing roles in digging deep into each person's circumstances.
In this way, I thought that if you can spend time with each other at a reasonable distance, you might be able to welcome an ideal old age in a sense.
