I lost my mother when I was little.

Because of that, when I was in junior high school, I went astray to an embarrassing degree. While my father was away, I was searching the dresser for money when I found a videotape.

I thought, 'Is this one of my dad's adult videos?' so I decided to watch it.

Then... my mother was on the screen, lying in a hospital bed. 'Happy 20th birthday, [Name]. I'm sorry I couldn't buy you anything. Even without me, I'm sure you've grown into a strong child. Are you a college student by now? Maybe you're even married...' It was a 10-minute videotape.

I cried. I cried for real.

The next moment, I shaved off my entire perm with my father's razor.

I studied so hard that everyone made fun of me. When I passed the entrance exam for a MARCH university after one year of retaking, my father cried while calling our relatives, as if I had been accepted into the University of Tokyo. And then, on my 20th birthday, as expected, my father handed me the tape. When I watched it closely again, I could hear my father crying while filming the video. My mother was laughing and saying, 'You're so pathetic.' I cried again.

My father must have had a hard time too. When I mentioned it to him, he said, 'I don't know what you're talking about,' but when I got a job offer, he said, 'Now I won't get scolded by your mother anymore.' I am able to live a decent life because this videotape existed.
