No. 957 The story introduced this time
Here, we feature stories that have become topics on the internet or in the news as "stories so good they bring tears to your eyes," along with videos uploaded on YouTube and other platforms.
The story introduced this time is a post by a woman who wrote about how she wrote a letter to an elderly person in town during a moral education class when she was in elementary school.
There was a video based on this story, so I will introduce it as well.
Regarding the posting date

I wasn't sure where to write this, but I'll do it here.
When I was in elementary school, I wrote a letter to an elderly person in town during a moral education class.
The reply was a letter written in vertical text using Word.
It seemed like the other kids stopped after that one exchange, but I continued to send letters.
I don't know why, even if you asked me, but I just felt like doing it.
The old man would also dutifully reply, and sometimes he would include pixel art he made in Excel, which I thought was amazing.
Those exchanges continued, and he even came to see my sports day.
However, once I became a junior high student, I got busy with club activities and studying, and the gaps between our letters started to grow.
Around the time I became a third-year junior high student, I received a letter from the old man.
At that time, I was busy with entrance exam studies and hadn't replied yet.
Or rather, I hadn't even opened the letter the old man had given me (the one he sent before this one).
The letter was from the old man's wife, and it said that the old man had passed away.
It seems his health had been poor for a long time.
She wrote that he had tried his best to write it at the end, so she wanted me to read it.
The other letter included was from the old man.
It wasn't the usual Word document; the handwritten characters I saw for the first time were written in a masterful hand.
He wrote that he was very happy to have made a young pen pal who sent him letters once a month.
When I saw that, I felt inexplicably sad.
The reason I kept sending letters to the old man was just a whim, and honestly, I don't know if I would have written the letters the same way if I could go back to that time in elementary school.
After I became a junior high student and got busy with friends and club activities, there were times when I found writing letters to be a chore.
I was ashamed of myself for that, and I felt so sorry because I felt like I had been heartless.
It's a cliché, but if I had known it was the last one, there would have been more I wanted to write.
I wanted to reply more frequently.
I can't explain it well, but it was such a calm and gentle time, yet the last letter became something bitter and painful.
In the end, I kept the letter he sent before the last one tucked away without ever being able to open it.
I felt a sense of regret and guilt, and I just couldn't bring myself to open it.
I grew up, and last week I got married.
I was cleaning up because I was moving out of my parents' house, and I found that letter.
Perhaps it was the healing power of time, but this time I was able to open the letter.
In the letter written in the Word format I hadn't seen in a long time, there were many kind words, like 'I'm sure studying is hard, but do your best,' and 'It's hot, so please take care of your health.'
Then, there was an illustration he made in Excel praying for my success in exams.
Seeing that, I truly thought I should have opened it sooner.
Looking at the words, 'There are many crossroads in life, such as high school entrance exams, university entrance exams, finding a job, marriage... but I am always rooting for you,' I remembered the old man.
Our relationship was about one letter a month and meeting maybe once a year, but I'm glad I met the old man.
Old man, I passed my high school entrance exam back then.
I'm getting married.
Thank you for always writing to me.
I'm just writing this out because there's no one left to tell.
