The story introduced this time is a post about someone who failed their university entrance exams and, because their family wasn't wealthy, was thinking of giving up on university and getting a job instead, when their grandmother gave them money to attend a prep school, saying, "Do your best."

I live with my mother and my grandmother.

My parents are not divorced.

My dad was a deadbeat who would gamble on pachinko and rack up debt.

Being a single-mother household, money was tight, and Mom worked every day.

Grandma always wore dirty clothes.

I had a university I wanted to go to, but since it cost money, I decided I would only apply there and if I failed, I would just get a job.

And then, I failed the entrance exam.

I was thinking, "I need to find a job right away," when Grandma came into my room.

"So, you failed your university exam, huh?" Grandma said.

"Yeah, but it's okay. I'm going to get a job," I said, trying to act tough and smiling.

Then, Grandma pulled a wad of cash out of a dirty handbag that I didn't even know how long she'd been using.

"Huh... what is this money..." I was speechless, and she said,

"You have a university you want to go to, don't you? Then go. Don't worry about the money. First, use this to go to prep school. Old people are rich, you know. Besides, I was just thinking about using this for something anyway."

Saying that, she pressed the wad of cash into my hand with her wrinkled hands.

Finally, as she left my room, she said, "Do your best," and walked out.

After that, I asked Mom about Grandma, and she said,

"Grandma has been saving her pension little by little ever since you were born. I didn't even know either."

I seriously cried.

Remembering why she wore dirty clothes even though she had money, and what we had just talked about in my room, I really cried.

I'm really going to do my best now.

Right now, all I can do is massage her shoulders, but I will definitely pass the university entrance exam.
