The Girl at the Hair Salon
No. 15 The story I'm introducing this time
"When I went to a hair salon recommended by a friend, a girl in a wheelchair came in..."
What I am introducing this time is a post from a man who visited a certain hair salon, regarding a girl in a wheelchair he saw there.
*The post date is thought to be around 2003 based on the content; I apologize if this is incorrect.
There was a video of this story uploaded on YouTube, so I will introduce that as well.

Since this isn't a misfortune or sadness that I personally experienced, it might be slightly off-topic for this thread, but I really wanted to get it off my chest, so I'm posting it.
Half a year ago, I went to a certain chain hair salon on a friend's recommendation. The exterior and the customer service both had a bright atmosphere, and it felt really good. Suddenly, a girl (probably 12 or 13 years old) wearing a deep hat in a wheelchair came into the shop with someone accompanying her.
It seemed like a walk-in, and after waiting for a while, she was guided into the shop, and it was fine up until the point she was moved to a chair by several stylists.
When she took off her hat, her hair was dry and brittle, perhaps due to medication or something, and it was falling out in places; it wasn't a head of hair that could be cut or colored at all.
I think the air in the room froze for a moment. And I can only call myself an idiot for the way I looked at her, perhaps with a strange gaze at that time.
She herself had a painful look on her face, and it seemed like the woman accompanying her (it didn't feel like a mother; a nurse?) had brought her there half-forcibly.
Then, an older man (maybe around 40) came out from the back. That guy was incredibly cheerful, laughing loudly—a middle-aged man who made you want to ask if he was really a hairdresser.
Then, the guy asked the girl, "I'll definitely make you look beautiful, so is it okay if I cut it all off?" Inwardly, I thought, since her hair is falling out and she seems hurt, wouldn't it be bad to cut it that much?
I was more concerned about that than my own head,
(since I was getting a perm, it took a while)
but I was surprised by the result. He gave her an amazing short cut, and the ends were kind of curly—if I write it like this, you might imagine an old lady's hairstyle, but it was, how should I put it, a hairstyle like a model you often see in magazines.
Even though he didn't use a perm or color, it was a huge transformation. It was completely different from before.
And above all, what was different was the girl's expression. She was smiling so much after seeing the result. I realized she was a very cute girl, even though she was a bit thin.
Even though she was so quiet at first, she was laughing out loud at every one of the guy's silly remarks. The whole hair salon was in a warm mood.
I thought hairdressers are truly amazing. The person who came with her was also very grateful.
I also felt very good that day, and I went home thinking I had found a good hair salon.
Then, I went to that hair salon again last week.
The treatment that day finished without any issues, and when it was time to pay, I tried to make my next appointment since this salon allows it.
When I did, they opened a customer file or something to check. The file after mine was that girl's file.
After seeing the marks indicating that she had made and then canceled appointments every month after that (times were written down and crossed out),
and when I saw that thick black lines had been drawn from about three days before the day I went (lines that looked like someone had scribbled them out in sadness),
I suddenly felt uneasy.
Usually, even if you change hair salons, you don't contact them, and you don't go out of your way to say you won't be coming anymore. Ah, I realized what this meant.
I want to believe that it's my misunderstanding and that she couldn't come for some reason like moving, but I saw that guy working in black suit pants.
Her expression and laughter from that time flashed back, and I cried my eyes out on the way home.

There were several videos made based on this story, so I will introduce some of them. *It seems there are other videos besides the ones I am introducing.
